About The Position

The Food Safety Intern will support food safety and sanitation initiatives focused on strengthening environmental monitoring programs and hygiene-related process controls. This role will evaluate existing practices, identify improvement opportunities, and support the development, testing, and documentation of enhanced sanitation and hygiene procedures. The internship provides hands-on experience in microbiological risk awareness, stored product protection, and FSQA continuous improvement within a manufacturing environment. This intern will be an active participant in the C.H. Guenther Internship Program cohort, receiving mentorship, professional development, and networking opportunities. C.H. Guenther is dedicated to delivering an enriching internship experience that goes beyond hands-on work to support long-term professional growth. The intern program will run from June 8 to August 14, 2026.

Requirements

  • Junior or Senior pursuing a degree in Food Science, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficient use of computer, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), and related software or application.
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to manage data accurately, and effective cross-functional communication.
  • Ability to manage complex projects including software implementations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to effectively interact with personnel in other departments and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Ability to think independently, analyze problems, and recommend solutions.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with Quality and Food Safety software management is a plus.
  • Proficiency in of SharePoint, SAP, SPC and other applicable Quality and Food Safety software systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Learn and support assessment of environmental and hygiene-related food safety risks, including microbiological and stored product considerations.
  • Review existing sanitation, hygiene, and environmental monitoring process controls to understand current effectiveness.
  • Assist in identifying opportunities to strengthen process controls to reduce environmental contamination and pest-related risk.
  • Support the development and revision of FSQA procedures and work instructions aligned with recommended improvements.
  • Assist with planning and execution of a small-scale pilot to evaluate proposed hygiene and sanitation enhancements.
  • Support documentation of pilot results, observations, and learnings.
  • Contribute to a recommended implementation and rollout plan to support consistent adoption across shifts.
  • Collaborate with FSQA and Operations partners to support standardization, training readiness, and sustainability of improvements.
