About The Position

Assist Forestry Technicians in the maintenance of City owned trees. This is a seasonal position. This is a Health Plan Eligible position.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of the methods, materials, equipment, and standard practices of landscape maintenance.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical operation of park-related vehicular equipment such as pick-up trucks.
  • Knowledge of basic hand and power tools, including rakes and leaf blowers.
  • Commitment to safe work practices and procedures;.
  • Ability to maintain and make minor repairs to maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to be self motivated, be accountable, be respectful and follow instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, other employees, and the general public.
  • Ability to effectively communicate information, both verbally and in writing, to support organizational objectives and interact with all levels of personnel within the city in a positive and cooperative manner.
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • A valid Colorado driver’s license and acceptable driving record is required.
  • Strenuous to extreme physical effort that includes frequent use of heavy objects (e.g., 50+ pounds) and may also use heavy tools or require strenuous application in awkward positions.
  • Individuals in strenuous positions must successfully complete a physical examination to ensure their fitness for duty.
  • Marginal to moderate exposure to conditions that are unpredictable and may lead to injury.
  • Regular exposure to heat and noise along with working outside in the elements.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a related field a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Chips brush during pruning and removal operations.
  • Utilizes basic hand tools and maintenance equipment, single-axle trucks, and a chipper during removal and pruning operations.
  • Assists with planting trees during the planting season.
  • Assists in providing follow up care to recently planted trees including deep root watering, mulch ring revitalizing, and air spading.
  • Assists in updating the City tree inventory database.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • Temporary, Variable Hour and Health Plan Eligible employees will earn 1 hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum cap of 48 hours.
