About The Position

The Foster Program Coordinator works under the direction of the Foster & Transfer Program Manager to manage the foster program within Animal Friends Alliance. Duties include keeping accurate and up to date files for all foster homes, ensuring timely communication with fosters via email and phone, and conducting extended foster training. The Foster Program Coordinator is responsible for ensuring both the people and animals in the foster program have a good experience and their needs are met. The Foster Program Coordinator is responsible for managing foster medical and surgery schedules and scheduling foster appointments.

Requirements

  • Required: High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Required: One year working with dogs & cats as a volunteer or professional.
  • Valid Driver’s License: Required
  • Sincere interest in Animal Friends Alliance’s mission & vision
  • Knowledge of animal breed, behavior, handling and care.
  • Basic technical procedures used in giving subcutaneous injections and medicating animals.
  • Knowledge of Google Suite, including Gmail and Google Drive.
  • Effective verbal and interpersonal skills for in-person, written and telephone communication, for interaction with the public and colleagues.

  • Knowledge of shelter software is a plus.
  • Knowledge of cat and dog breeds, behavior, handling and care.

Responsibilities

  • Trains and retains foster homes.
  • Provides education and training opportunities for foster homes.
  • Shares responsibility of being on-call for foster emergencies with the foster team, is an active member of the on-call rotation.
  • Shares responsibility of managing the foster phone line with the foster team.
  • Assists with intake exams when necessary
  • Handles animals and makes determinations regarding their disposition.
  • Cleans kennels, feeds animals and performs related housekeeping duties within the foster office
  • Collaborates with the Foster and Transfer Program Manager and Foster Intake Coordinator in regards to animals needing foster placement.
  • Performs euthanasia under the direction of a veterinarian.
  • Ensures foster homes and foster & transfer office remain PACFA compliant at all times.
  • Attends annual volunteer appreciation events.
  • Tracks foster retention and checks in regularly with foster families via surveys and other forms of communication
  • Performs regular quality control checks on foster program
  • Takes the lead in foster appreciation including ensuring thank yous are sent
  • Compiles weekly mobile adoptions list
  • Completes appropriate cleaning for disease control in foster & transfer office as well as personal workspace. Keeps foster & transfer office stocked and organized at all times.
  • Attends quarterly department meetings as assigned, presents at weekly rounds and one-on-one meetings with direct supervisor.
  • Attends quarterly staff meetings with the full Animal Friends Alliance team.
  • Treats animals humanely, with compassion and concern, both on and off the job, and conveys these values to others, in word and action.
  • Represents Animal Friends Alliance in a professional and courteous manner at all times.
  • Provides quality service to customers, volunteers, and staff, recognizing their individual contributions to Animal Friends Alliance. Monitors, supports, motivates and champions volunteers and their work.
  • Solicits monetary and in-kind donations by raising awareness of the organization's work, goals, and financial needs.
  • Follows all safety rules to ensure a safe work environment at all times. Takes immediate action to address any safety concerns or noncompliance issues that could put an animal, employee, volunteer, visitor, or the organization at risk.
  • Learns basic duties of other departments, and supports other departments and staff.
  • Monitors, supports, motivates and accredits volunteers and their work.
  • Understands and operates by Animal Friends Alliance’s core values.
  • Regular and timely presence onsite.
