The Claims & Compliance Manager is a dual-focus leadership role responsible for ensuring operational excellence in both Compliance & Risk Management and Cargo Claims Management. These two areas are equally critical to Edge Logistics’ ability to protect the business, reduce exposure, improve service quality, and maintain strong trust with carriers and customers. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, coachable, professional in communication, and comfortable working in a fast-paced logistics environment with evolving processes. This role partners cross-functionally with Carrier Sales, Customer Sales/Account Management, and Operations, and serves as the primary escalation filter for the Director. This role is positioned for growth. With strong performance and leadership, there is a pathway to the Senior Manager role. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, communicative, and confident navigating claims, carrier compliance, and cross-functional coordination.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in Freight Safety, cargo claims, auto claims, transportation compliance, or freight brokerage compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead workflows or mentor team members.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • High attention to detail; ability to follow structured processes.
  • Comfortable operating across multiple systems, shared folders, trackers, and TMS platforms.
  • Coachable, adaptable, and able to handle sensitive information discreetly.
  • Willingness to support after-hours incident response when needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with cargo claims, OS&D, or accident investigations.
  • Familiarity with FMCSA regulations and/or 49 CFR Part 370.
  • Experience with insurance verification, carrier vetting, or risk roles.
  • Experience collaborating with offshore/remote teams.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day compliance workflows, ensuring carrier vetting, insurance verification, safety checks, and documentation reviews are completed on time and to standard.
  • Assign, prioritize, and monitor team workload for U.S. and Colombia-based team members.
  • Ensure adherence to all compliance SOPs, internal controls, and escalation procedures.
  • Review team work product regularly for accuracy, completeness, and policy alignment.
  • Review and validate carrier authority, safety, and insurance through Highway, Carrier411, SAFER, and related systems.
  • Conduct load-level and carrier-level audits to ensure adherence to internal risk controls and customer requirements.
  • Verify insurance documentation, COIs, and coverage accuracy; escalate lapses or concerns.
  • Make outbound calls to carriers for risk reviews and Corrective Action Plan (CAP) follow-up.
  • Support compliance with FMCSA regulations and applicable federal requirements.
  • Assist with evaluating and enforcing policies related to 49 CFR Part 370, fraud mitigation, carrier safety, and operational risk.
  • Partner with Operations, Carrier Sales, and Account Management to resolve compliance-related issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Assist in identifying patterns of risky behavior, documentation gaps, or recurring carrier issues.
  • Support cross-functional security and safety initiatives.
  • Respond to compliance escalations with professionalism, accuracy, and urgency.
  • Maintain and improve SOPs, templates, audit tools, and compliance workflows.
  • Support internal and external audit readiness across carrier compliance, contract adherence, and documentation controls.
  • Participate in U.S. and Colombia team check-ins to maintain consistent global compliance practices.
  • Serve as the compliance point of contact for Carrier Sales, Operations, AM teams, and Track & Trace.
  • Assign, prioritize, U.S. and Colombia-based team members across locations.
  • Receive, log, and open new cargo claim files in internal systems.
  • Gather required documentation, including: BOLs and PODs Photos of damage/theft Customer invoices Police or incident reports Witness statements
  • Conduct fact-finding, gather evidence, and document timelines.
  • Maintain updated claim files with clear notes and follow-up activity.
  • Prepare and issue claim notices to carriers and insurers.
  • Track response deadlines and ensure compliance with 49 CFR Part 370 and internal SLAs.
  • Provide professional communication with customers, carriers, drivers, and insurance representatives via Teams, phone, and email.
  • Coordinate internally with Carrier Sales, Account Managers, Track & Trace, and operations teams to gather facts and drive timely resolution.
  • Monitor aging buckets (0–30 / 31–60 / 60+) and take proactive action to prevent backlog.
  • Maintain documented follow-up every 7–14 business days until closure.
  • Assist with the creation and improvement of SOPs, templates, training materials, and internal tools.
  • Identify trends in claims, compliance gaps, or recurring issues; recommend solutions.
  • Support cross-functional alignment with U.S. and Colombia teams.
  • Contribute to system enhancements, automation, and better documentation processes.
