The Medical Assistant will support the daily operations of the gastroenterology office by providing clinical and administrative assistance to physicians, clinicians, and patients. Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Schedule new and follow-up appointments
  • Handle incoming calls (appointments, questions, refills, messages)
  • Triage calls and route messages to clinical staff/providers
  • Confirm appointments and send reminders
  • Obtain prior authorizations for visits, procedures, imaging, or labs
  • Explain basic insurance coverage to patients
  • Scan and upload documents into the chart
  • Request outside records and track receipt
  • Ensure charts are prepped and complete before visits
  • Maintain HIPAA compliance at all times
  • Communicate with front/back office about patient arrivals and delays
  • Help keep the schedule running on time
  • Support providers and clinical staff with administrative needs
  • Handle referrals and follow-ups as assigned
  • Faxing, scanning, copying, and emailing records
  • Manage work queues or task lists in the EMR
  • Track no-shows, reschedules, and cancellations
  • Assist with daily reports or end-of-day closeout
  • Other duties as assigned
