Frontend Architect/Engineer (Senior IC)

Expert Institute
6d$160,000 - $180,000

About The Position

Expert Institute is a high-performance, results-driven company committed to exceptional service, innovation, and continuous improvement. We thrive on collaboration and accountability and we all inherently have a relentless focus on exceeding client expectations. Our business, both growing and profitable, runs on a sales engine that is high-energy and performance-driven. We believe our people, culture, and core values are the foundation of our success. We’re in a growth phase where frontend quality and speed directly impact the business. We’re looking for a senior frontend engineer who wants deep technical ownership, autonomy, and the ability to shape how our UI is built—while staying hands-on in the code. The Opportunity This is a senior individual contributor role with broad architectural scope. You will not manage people, but you will own critical frontend decisions, unblock teams, and set technical direction through hands-on leadership and influence. You will join a team of approximately 20+ engineers and take ownership of an existing, business-critical frontend platform. Your focus will be on strengthening and evolving the foundation—improving performance, establishing and scaling a design system, and introducing architectural patterns that enable faster, more reliable delivery across teams. You’ll spend most of your time building, refining, and evolving our frontend systems—while choosing your focus carefully across multiple initiatives. We’re looking for someone who prioritizes impact over activity and thrives in a fast-moving, startup-style environment.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of frontend engineering experience, including senior-level IC work with architectural responsibility.
  • Strong expertise in JavaScript/TypeScript and frameworks such as Angular (preferred) and React/Next.js. Recent experience with Angular, Next.js, and Node.js is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with modern CSS approaches, including Tailwind CSS (a huge plus) or similar utility-first frameworks.
  • A track record of building and scaling frontend systems used by multiple teams.
  • Strong instincts around performance, accessibility, and cross-browser compatibility.
  • Experience establishing and monitoring frontend performance SLAs.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in startup or high-growth environments.
  • Experience working in monorepos or shared frontend codebases.
  • A bias toward simple solutions that scale.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and evolve frontend architecture across applications built with Angular, Next.js, Node.js, and Tailwind CSS.
  • Strong expertise in JavaScript/TypeScript and frameworks such as Angular (preferred) and React/Next.js.
  • Recent experience with Angular, Next.js, and Node.js is strongly preferred.
  • Write production code daily, focusing on scalable patterns rather than one-off solutions.
  • Establish pragmatic conventions for components, state management, routing, data fetching, and performance.
  • Drive a mobile-first, responsive approach that delivers a high-quality experience across devices.
  • Make smart framework and tooling decisions, balancing speed of delivery with long-term maintainability.
  • Work closely with designers to translate product ideas into reusable, composable UI components.
  • Set frontend standards and best practices by example—through code reviews, RFCs, and shared patterns.
  • Help define testing strategies (unit, integration, E2E) that protect quality without slowing teams down.
  • Instrument frontend behavior using tools like FullStory to inform product and UX decisions.
  • Act as the go-to engineer for complex frontend and UI challenges.
  • Mentor other engineers through pairing, reviews, and technical guidance.
  • Participate in architecture discussions and help teams make clear, informed tradeoffs.
  • Work across multiple initiatives at once, prioritizing the work that delivers the most value.
  • Partner closely with product, design, and backend engineers to ship meaningful features.
  • Balance short-term wins with long-term health—knowing when to refactor and when to move fast.
  • Take full ownership of outcomes, not just tickets.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary, including an annual discretionary bonus.
  • Comprehensive benefits (medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, mental health support).
  • Paid time off and company-paid holidays.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match.
