Job Description Overview The Fuel Transport Operator transports, delivers, and disburses fuel and other materials to various City locations in a safe and timely manner to maintain an adequate fuel supply for uninterrupted services of fleet vehicles.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of traffic laws, safety regulations, and potential dangers of the fuels being hauled.
  • Knowledge of simple arithmetic, measuring, and weights.
  • Knowledge of basic techniques on loading and unloading procedures.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees and customers.
  • Ability to operate fuel transport equipment
  • Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Two (2) years of experience driving bobtail or tractor-trailer trucks including lowboys, flatbeds, freight, and tank trucks (does not include vans/pickups).
  • Valid driver's license with good driving record.
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) at the time of application or must be obtained within probationary period.
  • Availability to work varying shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Operates fuel tanker to transport fuel to various City of Dallas departments in a safe and timely manner; ensures effective delivery services to maintain uninterrupted services and fleet operations.
  • Loads and unloads transported materials onto fuel trucks and drives to and from customer locations in compliance with safety regulations.
  • Maintains accurate records detailing the type and amount of fuel or other material delivered to provide customer departments with an accurate delivery record and ensure that accurate inventory records are maintained.
  • Writes, drafts, and files daily reports, and maintains a record of the times and products delivered to keep the supervisor informed of the activities performed.
  • Performs routine truck preventive maintenance by keeping the vehicle clean, checking fuel lines, conducting simple fuel tests, and checking for any equipment leaks to ensure the safe delivery of the product.
  • Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.
