Full Stack Engineer (Back-end) - REMOTE

FlexionMadison, WI

About The Position

We’re looking for a Full Stack Engineer (Back-end focused) with an unwavering passion for designing meaningful, easy-to-use applications. Most of the work we do is on large-scale, enterprise-wide systems (both commercial and government)—this project in particular will help support the development of a government-wide Policy as Code system to manage data sharing agreements and data catalogs that will serve as a centralized police decision point.  It will also verify the authority of data requesters across different agencies and enforce granular restrictions based on agency specific policy and regulatory requirements. At Flexion (an agile software company that’s been delivering excellence for over 25 years), our company culture is built on autonomy, trust, and transparency. We empower teams to remain autonomous and self-directed by hiring people who can solve complex problems by functioning collaboratively—this means lending a hand and flexing your multi-skilled muscles (Analysis, Development, Design) as needed. Every member within a cross-functional team is a leader who takes responsibility for the entire team’s success, which mirrors the company’s overall approach of low bureaucracy structure. We believe that growth comes from working together—and that includes supporting each other through thoughtful, constructive feedback. Flexion team members are expected to help each other grow, challenge ideas respectfully, and integrate feedback as a normal part of the workday.  We are looking for a Full Stack Engineer particularly strong on the backend. In this role, you must possess excellent problem-solving skills and technical knowledge with a strong aptitude for appreciating the focus, scope, and impact of your work in a much wider and forward-looking software landscape. It is important to use test-driven development with full code coverage. This team generally engages in fully transparent, open source development. User-centered design drives our efforts. You can design small pieces as you go, while still thinking about how they fit into the whole. You welcome change as a positive thing (instead of viewing it as “rework”) and never look at anything you deliver as “final.” You understand when “good enough” really IS good enough, without ever compromising on the overall product quality. You understand that a focus on team health, communications and problem-solving are what creates a good working team.
