About The Position

A private family in the West Village is seeking an experienced full-time housekeeper to maintain and support their multi-level townhouse. The household is warm and lively, with two working parents, four children, a grandmother, and two dogs. The family values organization, clear communication, and long-term consistency, and is looking for someone who can maintain high standards in a relaxed, lived-in home. The ideal schedule is Monday and Wednesday from 10am to 6pm, and Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9am to 3pm. Although the weekly hours worked may vary, the family guarantees pay for a full 40-hour workweek. Local candidates only, please.

Requirements

  • Prior experience working in a multi-level townhouse without an elevator
  • Ability to go up and down several flights of stairs every day
  • Pet friendly and comfortable with a large dog (approximately 75lbs.)
  • Must be legal to work in the U.S.
  • Experience in a similar role supporting a private household, ideally in a multi-level townhouse
  • Warm, kind, and steady in a dynamic household with children
  • Highly organized, proactive, and able to manage responsibilities independently without micromanagement
  • Comfortable working alongside other household staff, including a longtime nanny
  • Discreet and respectful of confidentiality in a private home
  • Knowledge of how to clean and care for various surfaces, including stone, tile, and rustic pine floors
  • Communicative and seeking a long-term commitment

Nice To Haves

  • Light meal prep is not required, but would be a welcome bonus
  • Occasional support at the family’s Westchester home is not required, but would be a plus for candidates open to infrequent day trips. (Transportation provided.)

Responsibilities

  • All aspects of general cleaning of a 5-level, 5000 sq ft. townhouse (4 primary floors and a basement)
  • Daily and deep cleaning, including dusting, vacuuming, and mopping of floors
  • Laundry management: sorting, general washing, label reading, hand-washing when needed, and coordination with dry cleaners
  • Changing of linens and making beds
  • Wardrobe management, maintenance, and seasonal rotation
  • Cleaning and sterilization of the kitchen and bathrooms
  • Maintaining overall household organization and systems in a busy home with children and pets
  • Kitchen and pantry organization, including maintaining grocery lists and placing orders via Fresh Direct
  • Assist with feeding two dogs occasionally (family has a dog walker)
  • Anticipating household needs and proactively establishing systems that support a smooth-running home
