About The Position

A warm and loving family in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn, is seeking a superlative full-time nanny for their 18 month-old son, who has a rare, multisystem genetic disorder. There is also a 4-year old and a baby on the way in August but they have their own nanny and will not be the candidate's responsibility. The schedule will be 8am-7pm Monday through Friday (55 hours per week), and the role will start in April, when the family's current nanny (who started when their son was 3 months old) leaves. She and the parents will provide a comprehensive handover to the successful candidate. If candidates require live-in there is a garden unit available from the Fall. The 18 month old has generalized developmental delays and hearing impairment. He currently receives PT, speech therapy, and other supportive therapies, and a significant amount of time is spent taking him to appointments and working on his developmental goals at home - candidates will be expected to support this set up moving forward. Right now, the main focus is helping him move independently (he’s not crawling yet) and continuing to integrate foundational developmental skills. He’s a lovely, adorable, and very social child who is simply on his own timeline, and the family are looking for someone who can be dedicated to him, who truly enjoys working with children with special needs, and who wants to be part of his journey. Ideally, this person would be disciplined about implementing his therapy and homework exercises, while also being lighthearted, positive, and able to make the time he has outside of therapy fun and exploratory. Simple food prep, laundry, keeping the child's play areas tidy and generally being a very positive and supportive presence in the home. Create structure and systems in the home to help develop independence Travel with the family- approximately twice per year (both domestically and internationally)

Nice To Haves

  • Candidates should ideally have experience working with children with special needs or a background in fields such as physical therapy (PT), occupational therapy (OT), speech therapy, or special education.
  • Drawing on this experience, they should be able to thoughtfully structure the toddler’s time and actively support his developmental progress.
  • The family are looking for someone who is collaborative, warm, and engaging—someone who connects easily with children and brings a genuine love for working with them.
  • A candidate who can balance consistency with flexibility—following therapeutic routines while adapting to the child’s pace—will thrive in this role.
