What You Drive at DTNA Daimler Truck North America LLC seeks a Functional Safety Engineer III based out of our office at 4747 North Channel Avenue, Portland, OR 97217. Note, this is a hybrid position whereby the employee will work both from home and from the aforementioned office address. Hence, the employee must live within a reasonable commuting distance of the aforementioned office address. Note, this position requires up to 20% international travel annually. Job duties: Responsible for the development of state of the art safety engineering solutions for electric and electronic (E/E) vehicle systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering or a related field.
  • 6 years of experience in Automotive Safety Engineering.
  • Experience must include at least 3 years of experience working with ISO 26262 principles.
  • Must have experience with each of the following: Commercial vehicle systems, including software and electronic component development; Failure Analysis and Safety Analysis Methods; Software Design and Embedded Controllers; Requirements management/requirements engineering; Systems Engineering and Model Based Design; and Vehicle Simulation and Modeling.
  • Up to 20% international travel required annually

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with system and component owners through all phases of the development process to ensure all hazards are identified and mitigated by robust design solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with counterparts across the globe to create consistent functional safety strategies for all brands within the Daimler Truck family.
  • Drive risk mitigation and prevention with regard to vehicle occupants, pedestrians or other road users.
  • Apply and implement safety principles and standards to electronic vehicle systems.
  • Develop and maintain safety work products, including Impact Analysis, HARA, FSC, TSC, and documentation, including safety plans, safety case reports, and compliance reports, to ensure adherence to industry standards and regulations.
  • Assess and verify the functionality of safety mechanisms in electronic vehicle systems.
  • Lead safety audits and assessments to evaluate the effectiveness of safety processes and ensure continuous improvement in safety practices.
