About The Position

As an important member of the GI community practice team, the Gastroenterologist will have clinical responsibilities including outpatient clinic and inpatient hospital consultations, endoscopic procedures, and nights/weekends call coverage. The gastroenterologist will primarily see outpatients at the UCHealth Longs Peak Hospital and Longmont GI clinic 5 days per week (3 half-days outpatient clinic, 5 half-days outpatient endoscopy). Additionally, they will provide inpatient GI consultative services and nights/weekends call coverage at Longs Peak Hospital up to 8 weeks per year in rotation with other members of the Longmont CU GI community practice group. The successful applicant for this position will be someone who communicates appropriately and effectively with patients, staff, consultants, and colleagues, has outstanding customer service skills, and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. The University of Colorado’s Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology in the Department of Medicine is an internationally-renowned program that provides comprehensive resources for the diagnosis and management of diseases of the digestive tract, pancreas and liver. The Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology has faculty and staff making contributions to research, clinical trials, and nationally-recognized patient care. Gastroenterology & GI Surgery is one of the top ranked in the United States and our clinical partner, the University Of Colorado Hospital, is in the top hospitals nationwide as ranked by U.S. News and World Report. The Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology is rapidly growing, with clinical practice sites across Denver metro and the front range, which include over 80 researchers, physicians, advanced practice providers, and staff, all working toward its vision to prevent and treat disease while being a global model for patient care delivery, interdisciplinary research, and medical education. The CU GI Community Practice Group is a sub-section of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology providing community based clinical care at four UC Health satellite facilities across the front range; Highlands Ranch Hospital, Lone Tree Specialty Clinic, Cherry Creek Medical Center, and Longs Peak Hospital.

Requirements

  • MD or DO
  • Board certification in Internal Medicine
  • Board certification or active board eligibility in Gastroenterology
  • Must have, or be eligible to obtain, an active State of Colorado medical license
  • Must have an active DEA license on or before hire date
  • Excellent communication skills to interface with learners, faculty, healthcare teams, administrators, community organizations and donors

Nice To Haves

  • Therapeutic Endoscopy training (ERCP, EUS) – All ranks
  • Experience with Electronic Medical Records, such as Epic
  • ACLS and BLS certification
  • At least 3 years of post-graduate GI clinical practice experience
  • At least 5 years of post-graduate GI clinical practice experience
  • Prior academic appointment to the level of Assistant Professor from a previous institution
  • Clear record of scholarship, teaching, and service sufficient to be appointed as an assistant professor or higher at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus
  • At least 8 years of post-graduate GI clinical practice experience
  • Prior academic appointment to the level of Associate Professor from a previous institution
  • Clear record of scholarship, teaching, and service sufficient to be appointed as an Associate Professor or higher at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus

Responsibilities

  • Evaluation and management of GI disorders within the scope of a general gastroenterologist, including: · GERD · Dysphagia · IBS/functional GI disorders · Eosinophilic Esophagitis · Inflammatory Bowel Disease · Abnormal liver function tests · Pancreatitis · Occult iron deficiency anemia · GI motility disorders
  • Interpretation of GI diagnostics including: · Routine endoscopic procedures within the scope of a general gastroenterologist (polypectomy, treatment of upper/lower GI bleeding, endoscopic dilation) · Capsule endoscopy interpretation · Wireless pH capsule placement (Bravo®) · Hydrogen Breath Testing
