About The Position

Breakaway is seeking an experienced, highly organized Gates Manager to lead all on-site entry operations during festival weekends. This role oversees gate setup and breakdown, staff training and supervision, crowd flow management, access control, equipment operations, and close coordination with security teams and local authorities to ensure a safe, efficient, and positive guest experience. The ideal candidate thrives in fast-paced, high-energy outdoor environments, demonstrates strong leadership and decision-making skills, and maintains calm, professional operations under pressure while delivering exceptional guest service and operational compliance. This is a contractor role that requires travel to all Breakaway festival markets and is not a full-time position. The Gates Manager is required to be on-site Thursday through Sunday for each festival weekend.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of security, gate operations, or door management experience.
  • Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to project voice clearly when needed.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in high-pressure environments.
  • Experience in handling conflict resolution professionally and effectively.
  • Working knowledge of safety, security, and crowd management protocols.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to all festival markets throughout the season.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the setup and operation of ticket scanners, entry lanes, barricades, and gate signage.
  • Manage gate layout adjustments, including bike rack placement and traffic flow optimization.
  • Train and supervise scanning staff to ensure proper procedures and high-quality guest service.
  • Track and manage staff hours and scheduling.
  • Monitor and manage guest entry and exit flow to prevent congestion and ensure safety.
  • Maintain and manage all gate equipment and scanning devices.
  • Partner closely with security teams and local law enforcement to ensure safe and smooth gate operations.
  • Control access points, verify credentials, enforce site rules, and report any suspicious activity.
  • Resolve guest complaints, provide information, and manage high-volume guest interactions.
  • Make real-time operational decisions related to long queues, equipment issues, or unauthorized entry.
  • Maintain professionalism in fast-paced outdoor environments with varying weather, noise, and terrain.
  • Remain on feet for extended periods and engage in frequent public interaction.
