About The Position

The GED/ISAEP RODEO Program Teacher is responsible for teaching classes to high school, GED/ISAEP, students ages sixteen to nineteen, including curriculum development, evaluation of students’ progress, and accurate maintenance of all students’ records. GED tests require students to demonstrate their ability to apply, analyze, and evaluate information. Therefore, the development of a course of study for each student, based on the areas in which the student needs remediation is critical. Classroom instruction should be interactive and incorporate a variety of teaching techniques, materials, and resources, always keeping in mind the ultimate goal of students’ success on the GED exam.

Requirements

  • Must have a license to teach in Virginia and thorough knowledge of GED instructional practice.
  • Must have the ability to plan, organize, direct, and monitor the ISAEP assessment and instructional program.
  • Candidate must prove competency in the subject(s) they teach.

  • TABE Administration and GED Ready Test Administration preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides supervision of students in education setting.
  • Provides classroom and small group instruction to students in following areas: math, reading, writing, science, and social studies.
  • Develop, revise, and evaluate curriculum to meet the needs of the students.
  • Builds relationships with students and parents to ensure student success in the GED/ISAEP program.
  • Evaluates and track students' academic progress regularly, using standardized assessment tools.
  • Maintains current records on all students, including accurate attendance records, TABE, GED applications, and any court reports.
  • Communicates with parents, teachers, administrators, and related service providers on an as needed basis.
  • Organize and maintain class area, including equipment and materials.
  • Display a positive attitude with all students and staff; act as a supportive team member in a collaborative environment.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled training sessions.
  • Attend Virginia Department of Education ISAEP training sessions.
  • Administers TABE and GED Ready™, The Official Practice Test for placement in ISAEP program.
  • Recommends students for GED testing that meet the required minimum score and have a state ID.
