About The Position

The General Manager, Cable Assembly will lead and oversee manufacturing and production operations for FDH’s cable assembly operations in Wake Forest, NC and Naugatuck, CT. This leader will be responsible for driving efficiency, quality, and scalability on the production floor. This role demands a hands-on leader who will direct, plan, and optimize manufacturing operations while building and developing a high-performance production team. This leader will be accountable for operations performance and overseeing the hiring, training, and talent development of the operations team to align with business objectives. Success in this role requires relentless execution of process improvements, operational excellence and a commitment to delivering results at the site.

Requirements

  • Day-to-day production leadership – Excellent people leader, capable of organizing multiple production teams to achieve manufacturing unit targets. Proven ability to define standard work processes and standard target outputs. Ability to influence operations both directly and across second shift operations.
  • Manufacturing & Process Improvement – Expert in lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and process efficiency, relentlessly focused on throughput, waste reduction, and operational excellence.
  • Leadership & Team Development – Hands-on leader who builds, mentors, and drives high-performance production teams with a culture of accountability.
  • Communication & Cross-Functional Collaboration – Strong operator who aligns production, engineering, procurement, and sales to ensure manufacturing execution supports business goals.
  • Strategic & Analytical Thinking – Data-driven operator who owns KPIs, leverages production data, and makes high-impact decisions that drive performance and profitability.
  • Problem-Solving & Continuous Improvement – Proactive and solutions-focused, identifying inefficiencies, eliminating bottlenecks, and driving cost, speed, and quality improvements.
  • U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (Green Card holder) or asylee/refugee status as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3) required.
  • ITAR Requirement
  • 120.15. Some positions will require current U.S. Citizenship due to contract requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day operations of cable assembly production, ensuring efficiency, safety, and quality.
  • Oversee assembly processes, including cutting, stripping, crimping, soldering, and testing.
  • Establish production schedule to achieve targets, consisting of multiple discrete teams within a two-shift environment
  • Implement lean manufacturing principles to enhance productivity and minimize waste.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards.
  • Monitor and improve production schedules, throughput, and on-time delivery.
  • Develop and enforce quality control standards to minimize defects and rework. Coordinate with the Quality function to achieve high first-pass quality production standards.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives (Kaizen, Six Sigma, 5S, etc.) to optimize processes.
  • Identify and implement automation and technology to enhance production efficiency.
  • Analyze KPIs (yield rates, scrap rates, cycle times, etc.) and drive corrective actions.
  • Own P&L responsibility for the Wake Forest, NC and Naugatuck, CT cable assembly operation, ensuring financial targets are met or exceeded.
  • Develop and manage operational budgets, cost controls, and financial forecasting to support business goals.
  • Prepare and present monthly business unit performance reports – including production metrics, cost analysis, and financial performance – to senior leadership.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities across operations, labor, and supply chain processes.
  • Serve as an escalation point for customer-facing technical or quality issues related to cable assemblies, working cross-functionally to drive resolution.
  • Support root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to address customer complaints, non-conformances, and field issues.
  • Interface with key customers as needed to ensure responsiveness, build trust, and maintain high satisfaction with production deliverables.
  • Manage and develop a world-class production teams consisting of production managers, supervisors, leads and technicians.
  • Ensure workforce training and certification programs for compliance and skill development.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, safety, and operational excellence.
  • Collaborate with supply chain teams to ensure timely and cost-effective material sourcing and replenishment.
  • Establish inventory kitting standards in coordination with the materials and warehouse function.
  • Work with suppliers to optimize lead times, pricing, and quality standards.
  • Ensure alignment of raw material supply with production demands.
  • Oversee maintenance of equipment, tooling, and production infrastructure.
  • Ensure compliance with workplace safety regulations (OSHA, EPA, etc.).
  • Plan for capital expenditures to support capacity growth and new technology adoption.
  • Maintain adherence to safety protocols, environmental standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead efforts to reduce workplace incidents and improve employee safety practices.
