Creature Comforts Pet Resort is a full-service 24 hour / 7 days a week pet care facility offering luxury boarding, daycare, grooming, and enrichment services. Our mission is to provide pets with safe, structured, and loving care while giving pet parents complete peace of mind. We are seeking an experienced, motivated, and hands-on General Manager to lead our team and oversee daily operations. Position Overview The General Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, performance, and operational excellence of the facility. This role requires a strong background in animal care, team leadership, human resources, payroll, and financial oversight. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, emotionally intelligent, and passionate about both pets and people. The position will require on site management of both our locations, Angola and Tonawanda.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3–5+ years of management experience in pet care, veterinary, kennel, daycare, or related field
  • Extensive hands-on animal care experience (boarding/daycare experience preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of dog behavior, safety protocols, and group play management
  • Demonstrated experience in HR management, hiring, and employee relations
  • Experience with payroll processing and basic accounting functions
  • Strong leadership, communication, and conflict resolution skills
  • Proficiency in scheduling software, POS systems, and Microsoft Office/Google Workspace
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of boarding, daycare, grooming, and enrichment programs
  • Ensure safety, cleanliness, and compliance with all animal care standards
  • Maintain structured playgroup management and animal welfare protocols
  • Monitor facility maintenance and vendor relationships
  • Demonstrate extensive hands-on experience in animal handling and behavior management
  • Train staff in proper handling, health monitoring, and safety procedures
  • Ensure adherence to vaccination policies, feeding protocols, and medication administration
  • Recruit, hire, train, and retain high-performing team members
  • Manage scheduling and staffing to meet business demands
  • Conduct performance reviews and implement corrective action when necessary
  • Foster a positive, accountable, team-oriented workplace culture
  • Ensure compliance with labor laws and company policies
  • Process payroll accurately and on schedule
  • Monitor labor costs and productivity metrics
  • Manage budgeting, forecasting, and expense control
  • Review P&L statements and implement strategies to drive profitability
  • Handle basic accounting tasks including invoicing, reconciliations, and reporting
  • Maintain high standards of client communication and service
  • Resolve customer concerns professionally and promptly
