About The Position

Performs a range of housekeeping and environmental duties to maintain a clean and sanitized environment throughout the hospital. The General Services Associate (GSA) maintains daily cleanup of assigned areas. In addition to duties performed by a general cleaner, the GSA may also use industrial vacuum cleaners, scrubbers, buffers and/or additional hospital approved equipment to maintain the facility up to the highest standards in quality care. Our Environmental Service Department supports Boston Medical Center’s mission by providing support with daily disinfection, maintaining cleanliness in our public areas and keeping our floors shiny and creating a clean and pleasant atmosphere. Our staff connects with patients, visitors, and clinical staff every day to ensure a high quality services. Requirements

  • Work requires the ability to read, follow oral and written instructions in English at a level acquired through the completion of elementary school
  • Ability to learn and perform basic housekeeping practices and understands the policies and procedures of the hospital.
  • HS Diploma or completion of GED preferred
  • Experience in floor care, carpet care, restroom-cleaning preferred.
  • Must be able to safely lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted

  • Experience in floor care, carpet care, restroom-cleaning preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs project work including, but not limited to, floor refinishing, carpet extraction, etc.
  • Maintains stock of all housekeeping supplies in assigned areas and maintains housekeeping closets and equipment.
  • Prepares patient rooms for occupancy upon discharge or transfer.
  • Performs daily floor care maintenance.
  • Collects and disposes of trash and waste as needed.
  • Move furniture, boxes, etc. in order to clean.
  • Installs, cleans, maintains and repairs all designated housekeeping equipment.
  • Installs patient cubicle curtains.
  • Performs all functions of the General Cleaner.
