About The Position

The Genomics Analysis and Technology Core Specialist will support cutting-edge research by providing high-quality genomics services to internal and external investigators. The Specialist will have the opportunity to interact with customers, lab staff and faculty on a daily base. A gregarious nature and good communication skills are important. The role involves operating advanced genomics technologies, performing genomics assays including DNA/RNA extraction and QC, library preparation for short and long read sequencing and data reporting/ troubleshooting. The new staff will integrate into a fast-paced service lab and assist with bench marking and new service development and optimization. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and passionate about advanced technologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a core facility or service-oriented laboratory
  • Strong background in basic and advanced Molecular Biology techniques, and ability to follow protocols, and standard operating procedures.
  • Demonstrated analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
  • Able to work as a team but also independently on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent organizational, communication, documentation and reporting skills are a must
  • Master’s degree in biological sciences, or a related field
  • Prior experience training or supporting users in laboratory techniques
  • Experience/familiarity in core molecular techniques will be a plus including: Nucleic Acid extraction and QC analysis
  • PCR, qPCR and primer design
  • Single cell and bulk RNA seq library preparation and analysis
  • Short read (Illumina) and long read (PacBio) sequencing methods.
  • Working knowledge of lab management software (eg Ilab)
  • Strong interest/experience in bioinformatics tools and data analysis pipelines
