Dewberry is seeking a Geotechnical Discipline Lead – Levees, Dams, Coastal Structures with 15+ years of geotechnical engineering experience focused on the planning, design, and construction of flood risk management systems across coastal and riverine environments. This position may work from any of our offices and offers the opportunity for a hybrid or remote schedule, depending upon experience. In this nationally influential role, you’ll serve as Dewberry’s geotechnical lead for large-scale flood resilience and water infrastructure projects—including levees, floodwalls, dams, coastal structures, and more. You’ll partner with top-tier technical experts, shape the direction of our resilience practice, and lead transformative projects throughout the country. Requirements

  • BS in Civil Engineering (geotechnical emphasis required); MS or PhD preferred.
  • 15+ years of experience in flood resilience, flood control, or water resources engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license with the ability to obtain reciprocity in multiple states.
  • Proven experience leading business development and delivering major flood resilience projects, including work with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
  • Demonstrated experience as the Geotechnical Engineer of Record on large, complex projects.
  • Strong familiarity with USACE, FEMA, and other relevant standards and procedures.
  • Exceptional communication and technical writing skills.
  • Proficiency with CAD programs (AutoCAD, MicroStation, etc.).
  • Expertise with geotechnical analysis tools such as GeoStudio, CWALSHT, CTShoring, Ensoft suite, HELIX, DeepEx, and similar programs.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience or familiarity with coastal, riverine, or offshore marine engineering is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering analyses and develop preliminary and detailed designs for flood risk management system components (levees, floodwalls, weirs, channels, seawalls, etc.).
  • Serve as the Geotechnical Engineer of Record on major flood resilience and water resource projects.
  • Grow, mentor, and support a team of geotechnical professionals delivering multidisciplinary projects across the US.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships within municipal, state, and federal markets.
  • Direct large, complex, multi‑disciplinary design efforts from strategy through execution.
  • Lead capture planning and proposal development for major pursuits.
  • Manage or provide technical leadership on resilience, water resources, and hazard mitigation projects.
  • Collaborate with clients to set goals, coordinate resources, and ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and to the highest technical standards.
