About The Position

The Gerlach Residence Lead will assist with allocations of rooms, trailer spaces, and living boxes/containers on our properties. In addition, the Gerlach Residence Lead will help support reservations, check-in/check-out, security, cleaning, caretaking, and housing for all visitors (including staff and guests), and will track placement of all assets and personal trailers. The role also includes supporting Ranch staff with the power to assets and personal trailers. This is a temporary, full-time , non-exempt role, based in Gerlach, NV running from June to October , 2026. The deadline to apply for this role is 5:00 pm Pacific on Friday April 3rd 2026.

Able to work in an extreme environment including drastic temperature changes, high winds, and low to no visibility at times.
Willing to live in Gerlach full time.
Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.

Nice To Haves

It is helpful if the candidate has previously been to Burning Man and/or is familiar with its culture.
Experience in working as a caretaker or property manager.

Responsibilities

Property Caretaking (55%) Perform weekly walk-throughs of the property, noting safety and maintenance concerns and passing information to the Gerlach Residence Manager.
Assist the Gerlach Residence Manager with housing needs for staff, visitors, and any other guests as required.
Will be responsible for the safety, security, maintenance and general oversight of the property.
Work with the Gerlach Residence Manager to place BMTs and personal trailers as needed on the properties.
Proper placement will allow various teams to leave the properties in a timely fashion so they can meet their deadlines.
Work with the Housing Crew in the collection and removal of trash from their respective properties weekly.
Work with other crews and vendors (power, water etc) to ensure operational needs are met.
Report any property damage and/or malfunctions, misuse of property, safety issues, or concerns to the Gerlach Residence Manager.
Be available after hours to respond to property maintenance emergencies or other issues.
Administrative (30%) Assist the Gerlach Residence Manager to maintain property status and improvement tracking documents.
Track and update placement of BMTs and personal trailers on properties.
Follow crew schedules to ensure work is completed in a timely manner.
As needed, submit receipts and any expense reports, ensuring forms are complete and submitted on time.
Attend Burning Man Staff Meetings, and share the information with the crew.
Property Security (10%) Greet visitors, staff, utility workers, and inspectors.
Ensure property remains secure, and the closed houses remain unoccupied.
Perform daily checks at all of the Housing Properties.
Track and update placement of BMTs and personal trailers on properties.
Other Functions and Responsibilities (5%) Maintain positive relationships with nearby neighbors and community members to keep the lines of communication open and help offset the impact of the event time period; report back to NVO Council any necessary concerns the neighbors have shared.
Abide by the rules and codes of conduct described in the NVO Compass, Ranch Protocols, and the Housing S.O.P.
Maintain clear and regular lines of communication with NVO and DPW Team members, providing regular reports and feedback as necessary.
Attend required meetings for NVO Managers and Black Rock City Staff.
Improve upon Standard Operating Procedures and implement strong succession plans.
Familiarize yourself with, and act in accordance with, Burning Man’s staff policies.
Perform other duties as assigned by the NVO Housing Manager or the Gerlach Residence Manager.
LEARNING AND TEACHING Documentation - Drives the creation, publishing, and maintenance of process documentation related to assigned duties.
Teaching – Takes a leadership role in the acculturation and training of staff. Teaches live or e-learning classes, as requested. Promotes a culture of teaching and learning throughout the community.
Mentoring - Mentors subordinates in acquiring the knowledge, skills, and experience that will allow them to advance in the organization. Aids, encourages, and inspires their team.
Training development - Collaborates with the education team to develop training materials in their area of expertise, as requested.
Learning – Pursues ongoing learning in their area of expertise, working to stay current on emergent knowledge, skills, and processes. Participates in conferences, forums, and networking events, where appropriate.
Speaking – Represents Burning Man as a subject matter expert and culture-bearer, as requested.
