About The Position

The coach interacts directly with student-athletes, coaches, parents and as a representative of HCS Athletics to be a highly visible platform for the exhibition of Christian character. The employee is to live and coach in such a way so that student-athletes are led to righteousness in every area of life, and in particular their athletic development. The coach is committed to fostering an environment of encouragement, teamwork, and excellence; not criticism, individualism, or perfectionism. It is the desire of our teams to play to win, but more importantly to glorify God.

Requirements

  • Prior coaching experience is required.
  • The employee must be a Christian with an authentic and a mature personal relationship with Jesus Christ, who agrees to the HCS Statement of Faith, Charter of Core Values and Employee Covenant in both their professional conduct and personal lifestyle.
  • In addition, demonstrate the character qualities of enthusiasm, courtesy, flexibility, integrity, gratitude, kindness, self-control, perseverance and punctuality.
  • Meet the stress of athletic competition with emotional stability and positive words/actions.
  • The employee will establish and maintain excellent working relationships, representing Christ and HCS professionally and positively with the HCS community-at-large, including faculty and staff, Board members, parents, volunteers and others is crucial to the success of this role.

  • Previous managerial experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Coaches shall advise and give direction to lower level squads in such areas as fundamentals, drills, patterns, offenses, defenses, conditioning, and coaching techniques.
  • Commitment to executing a strength and conditioning program for the team, providing accountability and developing buy-in.
  • Monitor and enforce compliance with IHSAA rules and regulations.
  • Instruct student-athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success based on the Heritage Christian Athletic Handbook
  • Teach athletes to perform sound, safe fundamental techniques of the designated sport.
  • Coaches will be responsible for upholding team expectations and providing accountability to the student-athletes.
  • Promote and encourage the success of all other programs, emphasizing the need to share multi-sport athletes and to collaborate fruitfully with students, parents, and staff to balance our students’ investment in academics.
  • Provide supervision of the gym/field/etc at all times when athletes are present. Secure facilities when done.
  • Will coach from a Biblical perspective and strive to be a true reflection of Jesus Christ to our athletes.
  • Set an example of the importance of church attendance, prayer and Bible study.
  • Coach will create a winning environment by displaying a positive attitude and providing daily encouragement to those under their leadership, helping to build strong relationship
  • Follow the Matthew 18 principle in dealing with students, parents, administration, and staff.
  • Support the Administration in carrying out the mission of the school.
  • Recognition that parents are primarily responsible before God for their child and partner with them.
  • Encourage students to accept God’s gift of salvation and grow in their faith.
  • Emphasize to students the reality of their own self-worth in Christ.
  • Promote honesty, integrity, humility, loyalty, unity and encourage total character development of our athletes
  • Additional duties, responsibility and activities are outlined in the Coaches Handbook and may be added to as needed.
