About The Position

The GIS Data Management Analyst/Analyst Senior is responsible for compiling, analyzing, and creating visualizations of a variety of geographic data related to Business Unit and/or department operations and effectiveness by leveraging the ArcGIS platform and other software tools to support critical management decision making. Analysts consult with different areas of the business to provide solutions to improve data-based workflows, while maintaining great data integrity and content standards for enterprise data repositories. They collect and handle data, provide mapping services, perform technical research and analysis, and coordinate activities.

Requirements

  • Analyst
  • Bachelors' degree in GIS, Geography, Business, Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Math, or related field and two (2) years of experience in performance statistics, power cost factors, electric transmission/distribution/plant operations, analytics, and/or data science.
  • In lieu of degree, high school diploma/GED and six (6) years of experience in performance statistics, power cost factors, electric transmission/distribution/plant operations, analytics, and/or data science.
  • Depending upon the position being filled, preferred knowledge of descriptive statistics and forecasting techniques, energy system operations and maintenance factors, energy performance statistics and energy production cost factors. To accommodate business unit, operations, system, and/or customer needs, the ability to work outside of normal business hours may be necessary.
  • Analyst Senior
  • Bachelors’ degree in GIS, Geography, Business, Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Math, or related field and five (5) years of experience in performance statistics, power cost factors, electric transmission/distribution/plant operations, analytics, and/or data science.
  • In lieu of degree, high school diploma/GED and nine (9) years of experience in performance statistics, power cost factors, cost/budgeting, electric transmission/distribution/plant operations, analytics, and/or data science.
  • Requires strong working knowledge of one or more of the following: budget and forecast techniques, power system operations and maintenance factors, plant performance statistics and power production cost factors.
  • To accommodate business unit, operations, system, and/or customer needs, the ability to work outside of normal business hours may be necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • ArcGIS Pro for spatial analysis, network analysis, image analysis, mobile map package preparation, geoprocessing models, and scripting
  • ArcGIS Online and/or Enterprise combined with ESRI Field Apps for leading web and mobile content development, improving enterprise workflows for data capture/conversion/transfer, and supporting as a consultant for the enterprise
  • Ability to define, lead, and exemplify best practices for enterprise GIS content creation and management.
  • Technical knowledge of electric utility operations, as well as APS asset/work management and grid management computer systems including Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS), Maximo, or other utility terminology, symbols and schematics.
  • Experience with geographic information systems, data science, and data analytics.
  • Demonstrate good time management and the ability to manage several projects/tasks at once and have the flexibility to accomplish them.
  • Experience with managing or supporting remote sensing and imagery programs for capture, post-processing, analysis, and data management is a plus
  • Python scripting experience in an IDE, ArcGIS Pro, or Notebooks is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Perform various operations, performance, cost, and/or specialized data analysis to identify trends and operations issue.
  • Reconcile data and develop explanation of variances as necessary.
  • May develop forecasts and projections on future trends for different operations and performance categories related to energy operations, reliability, and availability.
  • Develop or assist in the development and maintenance of internal database systems to support the tracking and reporting on company operations and performance measures, costs, and/or other specialized data.
  • Verify accuracy and completeness of data to ensure data integrity.
  • Identify data issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with multiple departments to coordinate the interface of data from different systems and the development of reporting and analysis for management and other internal and external stakeholders to support critical business decisions.
  • Continually monitor available data and modify reporting and analysis to ensure most relevant information for decision making is provided to stakeholders.
  • Monitor and extract data on key operations and performance measures using various external and internal data sources.
  • Provide support and technical assistance within the department and to other areas of the company including providing performance and cost statistics to regulatory agencies and industry organizations.
  • Develop and produce a variety of monthly and annual reports.
  • Based on interdepartmental needs, utilize software tools to integrate datasets and devices/equipment into the energy management system.
  • Track and trend data, errors, health of various systems, to evaluate and proactively correct system deficiencies before they worsen and become system limitations.
  • Collaborate with multiple departments to provide a good level of internal customer support.
  • May track budget expenses, identify costs overruns and recommend corrections; may analyze and assist in the development of the budgeting activities for the organization as well as coordinating the efforts of all Unit budget activities.
