GIS Technician (Hybrid Work Schedule)
About The Position
Creates, updates, maintains, and publishes Arapahoe County’s Assessor Tax Maps, implementing changes to the maps due to development in both incorporated and unincorporated areas of the County. Creates address plat maps and assigns addresses and parcel numbers. Utilizes Geographic Information Systems (GIS) techniques to create and extract data and uses varying analysis methods to arrive at results. Work includes preparation and maintenance of digital maps in GIS, data collection and entry, review of data for quality and completeness, and performance of Coordinate Geometry (COGO) calculations using GIS. Provides mapping data and cartographic products for Arapahoe County Public Works and Development divisions and the public.
Requirements
- Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems, map use, and data editing methods and familiarity with ESRI software including ArcGIS Pro.
- Ability to read and interpret maps, land descriptions, plans, survey records, and aerial photos.
- Ability to use personal computers and GIS software and other applications for data entry, report generation, and other functions.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Associate’s degree in GIS OR one (1) year of relevant experience in GIS.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience that satisfy the requirements of the job may be considered.
- Must successfully pass pre-employment testing which includes an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR) and background check.
Responsibilities
- Creates, maintains, and updates parcels, blocks, subdivisions, and centerline GIS datasets using ArcGIS Pro.
- Performs Coordinate Geometry (COGO) calculations to determine parcel creation or modifications created by subdivision plat, condominium map, or deed.
- Creates address plat maps for new subdivisions.
- Prepares, documents, and processes addressing assignments.
- Assigns address points in the County’s GIS data for new parcels and tracts. Assigns addresses according to the Denver Metropolitan area grid system.
- Assists internal and external customers in obtaining information pertaining to County GIS data. Produces maps for the public and for County uses.
- Researches historical maps, legal descriptions, and subdivision plats.
- Performs GIS analysis and data editing/conversion.
- Provides technical and administrative assistance for County GIS datasets.
