Job Description
Position Overview:
Product management roles come in many varieties. Ours is a critical global leadership role, that influences and partners across the organization to drive enduring business success. Our product managers are senior, strategic, quantitative and driven.
Global Product Managers are responsible for proactive management of one or more service-line and accountable for global revenue and gross margin.
Specific duties include:
* Champions customer, customer value, market insights and Proto Labs strategy.
* Partners with the executive team and region general managers (P&L owners) to drive both short and long terms actions to meet the revenue plan this week, this month, this year and next year.
* Conducts extensive market and customer research to capture needs, opportunities and threats. Targets best customers and industries, based on insight as to how Proto Labs improves their business outcomes.
* Conducts analysis of service-line performance data form various internal sources to build a comprehensive understanding of revenue, customers, and offers. Applies learnings to make data-driven improvements.
* Identifies product offering (features, functions and policies) to meet market demand. Identifies additional product enhancements based on market research and market demand. Determines product costs and recommends pricing to meet acceptable profit margins.
* Manages development of service features. Schedules and prioritizes service enhancements.
* Work with other service managers, senior management, manufacturing, marketing, sales, and others to rank the competing priorities between services, quality and efficiency improvement items and service expansion items. Provide overall priority and product direction to the technical and manufacturing staffs.
* Sets and manages price based on customer willingness to pay, costs, and competitive forces, balancing revenue growth and profit.
* Provides oversight and direction to product development team to commercialize product offerings. Provides input to marketing to assist with product launch and ongoing marketing efforts. Provides product knowledge to sales and customer service team and serves as subject matter expert for ongoing sales and service support.
* Identifies key customer segments and refines end-to-end service offerings to target those segments.
* Other duties as assigned.
Desired Capabilities and Attributes:
* Demonstrated ability to take ownership of product/solution performance
* Demonstrated product management experience including market segmentation, voice of the customer, and value-based pricing
* Strong technical understanding and analytical capabilities
* Experience with assigned service-line processes (e.g. injection molding, machining, additive)
* Effective operating style, compatible with the Proto Labs culture: collaborative, flexible, innovative, and results-oriented
* Proven ability to foster collaboration and build alignment across cross-functional teams to achieve necessary results
* Proven track record of leading projects that successfully achieve milestones and complete deliverables
* Demonstrated understanding of how to balance priorities between delegation and personal contribution
* Experience interpreting a P&L statement Business acumen; practical, applied business judgment
* Excellent communication skills; comfort with public speaking and executive team interactions
* Willingness to travel
Minimum Qualifications:
* Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in technology or engineering
* MBA preferred
* At least five years of related business-to-business product management experience
* At least two years of product management experience with international customers and team members
