About The Position

As a primary contact for customers, the GM/HBC Manager provides friendly, courteous, and helpful service. GM/HBC Manager works in the non-food and non-perishable department of the store. Is held accountable for the department’s results in providing superior service, increasing sales, improving gain, and containing cost. Trains, supervises, schedules, and assigns duties to GM/HBC Stock Clerk. Follows division guidelines for implementation of the merchandising program. Pay Transparency: Starting rates will be no less than the local minimum wage and may vary based on things like location, experience, qualifications, and the terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement. Candidates with unique qualifications may be considered for compensation above this range. Dependent on length of service, hours worked, any applicable collective bargaining agreement and/or Company policy, benefits may include medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, sick pay, PTO/Vacation pay, paid holidays, bereavement pay and retirement benefits (pension and/or 401(k) eligibility). Associates in this position may be eligible for a quarterly bonus, subject to Company bonus plans. Applications are accepted on an on-going basis. For roles in Washington State: Sick pay and PTO/Vacation pay are accrued based on hours worked and paid holidays are issued at 7-9 days annually.

Requirements

  • Ability to follow company customer service procedures.
  • Demonstrated prior customer service skills or related experience.
  • Must meet the minimum requirements to interview and pass interview for promotion.
  • Ability to interact professionally with customers, co-workers, and supervisors
  • Aware of store promotions and advertisements.
  • Must have the ability to read, write and communicate in English.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.
  • Ability to multitask while working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently when necessary.
  • Knowledge of products, product pricing and store layout.
  • Ability to make quality decisions and work under minimal supervision.
  • Ability to multitask while working under stress and time constraints.
  • Ability to work varied shifts over a 24-hour operation.
  • Must be 18 years old and be able to operate bailer and electrical equipment.
  • Reports to work in proper uniform per company policy.

Responsibilities

  • Provides customer service as defined by the employer within the scope of the position and within company policy.
  • Train, schedule, and supervise GM/HBC stockers to ensure optimum staffing in the department.
  • Speak with customers to resolve problems with sales, dissatisfaction with service or product, or other problems related to the operation of the GM/ HBC department.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the department and storage area.
  • Face shelves to company standards.
  • Changes signs, tags and prices as directed by merchandising
  • Replace stock in displays and on shelves as needed matching the bar codes. Make sure all expired items are removed from the shelves daily. Order department product. Pulls recalls as needed.
  • Perform daily inventory and order necessary product to maintain adequate inventory.
  • Responsible for accurate inventory procedures to include checking the load for shorts and maintaining backroom area. Maintains all paperwork in files.
  • Loads stock onto 6-wheeler or use pallet jack to move merchandise.
  • Push loaded 6-wheeler to appropriate area.
  • Open cases and carry product to display area. Return excessive stock to back room and complete BRI.
  • Responsible for security of sensitive, high dollar product. Must be tagged and placed in a secure area.
  • Adheres to Federal, State, local laws.
  • Ensures that displays, shelves, and backroom areas are organized, clean and neat.
  • Adheres to Safeway policies and store rules.
  • Other necessary and required duties as assigned.
