About The Position

A Gold Team Driver will serve as part of the Area's Gold Team, a specialized group providing critical support across the area. This role requires flexibility, adaptability, and a strong commitment to operational excellence. A Gold Team Driver must be willing and able to perform essential driver duties during periods of driver shortages or other high-need events. A strong ability and willingness to travel extensively— up to 90% — and commit to extended stays throughout the area is required. A Gold Team Driver will safely and efficiently operate both automatic and manual transmission trucks and demonstrate proficiency in at least two lines of business (LOB) with the ability to achieve certification across all LOBs. When not deployed as part of the area support force, the Gold Team Driver will support operations within their home district as needed.

Requirements

  • 2 years of industry experience or
  • 7 years equivalent military experience and
  • 2 years experience operating a vehicle requiring a CDL
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Legally eligible to work in the country where the position is located
  • Able to read, write, and speak English well enough to interact with the public, understand traffic signs, respond to official questions, and complete records or reports
  • Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A with an air brake endorsement Upon Hire
  • Successfully complete pre-employment screening, including drug screen and physical Upon Hire

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D
  • Additional or specialized training, and previous experience in working strikes, lockouts, natural or national disasters or other work interruptions

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a clean and safe vehicle/equipment and operates vehicle in accordance with Occupational and Safety Health Act (OSHA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements, as well as all local, state and federal requirements and Company expectations for the Fleet in all weather conditions.
  • Immediately reports any unsafe situations or service calls to Management or Dispatch before attempting service.
  • Performs pre- and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicle/equipment, utilizing standard DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Report); notes all issues on DVIR form for corrective review/repair.
  • Participates and cooperates in all scheduled training, briefings, and meetings as required.
  • Communication Skills: Required to communicate in a professional manner in accordance with WM Code of Conduct.
  • Required to conduct one’s self in accordance with WM Code of Conduct, and any other applicable rules, policies and procedures.
  • Works to improve route efficiencies and identify problem or unsafe accounts.
  • Must be able to read maps.
  • Notifies Management or Dispatch of issues as prescribed by Service Machine protocol, including blocked containers, potential missed pick-ups or problems that arise on the route.
  • Communicates customer requests or issues to Dispatch or Management.
  • Completely dumps all containers and leaves the customer’s location clean and free of debris.
  • Completes and submits customer tickets when excess yardage must be removed.
  • Positions containers on the customer’s property in a manner that ensures lids are properly replaced, containers are set in an upright position, and containers do not block driveway entrances or traffic.
  • Follows route assignments throughout the day and completes all documentation.
  • May be required to train and coach new and existing drivers on use of applicable tools, equipment, and in fundamental routing practices; transfers expertise to drivers.
  • May be required to deliver training to new and existing drivers on OSHA, DOT, and WM policies and driving standards.
  • May be required to train and coach employees as a “model driver”.
  • Performs all duties as scheduled by Route Manager or Dispatch, assisting other company drivers as directed.
  • Required to exert physical effort in handling objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Required to work in environments and conditions, which involve exposure to environmental elements such as dirt, odors, noise, and weather extremes or similar elements most of the day.
  • Required to work in environments, which may involve exposure to occupational risks and hazards such as cuts, burns, toxic chemicals, etc.
  • Other minor duties may be assigned.
