About The Position

Under direction of a Golf Course Superintendent, Foreman or Golf Course Worker II or I, performs assigned tasks involved with the care and maintenance of golf courses and surrounding facilities, including park facilities. Performs turf maintenance functions. Operates related equipment such as tractors, riding mowers, hand mowers, weed eaters, edgers, blowers, and sand pros. Lifts over 50 pounds to unload and load mowers. Required to work a varied schedule, including weekends and holidays. Keeps the clubhouse area, driving range area and maintenance area in a neat and orderly condition. Operates a motor vehicle to assist in carrying out the business of the department and the City Using excellent customer service skills, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and all members of the general public. Drives City vehicles such as pick-up trucks and one ton trucks. Changes putting green cups, top dresses greens and other turf areas. Responsible for seeding and irrigation. Using a shovel, digs up irrigation lines from ground level to four feet in depth; replaces PVC pipe and sprinklers. Using a shovel, loads tricksters with sand and dirt. Applies fertilizer by lifting 50-pound bags of fertilizer into a hopper and pushing 50-pound hand spreaders. Performs litter control tasks including picking up barrels and loading them onto the truck. Cleans golf course facilities and rest rooms using cleaning supplies as directed. Brings golf carts up to pro shop in the morning. Cleans, fuels and checks carts after each use. Often performs work on hands and knees. Operates noisy, self propelled mowing equipment. Works around the public in a safe and courteous manner. Attendance at work is an essential function of this position.

Requirements

  • This position is subject to the City of Farmington's Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace Policy which includes: pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing, and follow-up testing.
  • Extensive background checks required.
  • Valid New Mexico driver's license with acceptable driving record for past three years or state of current residency.
  • Experience in installation and repair of sprinkler systems.
  • Knowledge of lawn care or turf maintenance chemicals.
  • Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.
  • Ability to operate noisy equipment for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral instructions.
  • Ability to tolerate weather extremes for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, other City personnel and the public.
  • Ability to operate tools and equipment listed.
  • This position has the responsibility to participate in and comply with the City's Environmental, Health, and Safety program.
