Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Communications, or a related field
  • 5-10 years of experience in government relations, legislative staffing, or public affairs
  • Exceptional writing and public speaking abilities
  • Ability to navigate both a corporate boardroom and a rural community hall with ease
  • Strong grasp of Nevada's unique regulatory environment
  • Willingness to travel frequently between Elko, Reno, Las Vegas and Carson City, especially during legislative sessions. Occasional travel to Washington, DC

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the Nevada political ecosystem is highly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Legislative Monitoring and Policy Analysis: Track bills and regulatory changes in the Nevada Legislature and state agencies (e.g., NDEP, BLM) that impact land use, water rights, and taxation; as well as federal legislation that impacts mining. Translate complex mining regulations into clear briefing notes for executive leadership. Draft testimony, as required.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with local county commissioners, state legislators, community leaders in rural Nevada, and the Nevada federal Congressional delegation.
  • Coalition Building: Represent the company in industry trade association working groups and work with NGOs on shared sustainability and economic goals. Attended relevant networking and coalition events.
  • Event Management: Coordinate mine tours for officials, and other events as needed.
  • Internal Stakeholder Engagement: Coordinate with NGM Communities, Native American Affairs, Legal and Permitting Departments on engagement to their relevant stakeholders.
  • Provide government affairs direction and support for the North America closure and exploration teams.
