About The Position

The Government Relations Manager advances OnPoint Community Credit Union's legislative, regulatory, and public policy priorities at the local, state, and federal levels. The role manages day-to-day advocacy operations, supports outreach to policymakers and civic partners, and strengthens OnPoint's presence across key business, community, and public forums. The Manager leads legislative tracking and analysis, develops policy communications, coordinates relationship management, prepares meetings and briefings, and supports coalition engagement. This position serves as a trusted extension of the VP, Government Relations, assuming delegated responsibilities during absences or as needed. The position requires a collaborative work style, clear judgment, professionalism, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-moving political environment while representing OnPoint with credibility and integrity.

Requirements

  • Possesses an understanding of political and regulatory processes, and the ability to interpret and synthesize related materials across levels of government.
  • Demonstrated capacity to represent the organization at executive and legislative leadership levels.
  • Clear written and oral communication tailored to professional and executive audiences.
  • Works across the political spectrum through a nonpartisan approach grounded in integrity and discretion.
  • Professional presence in external settings with judgment on when to elevate issues.
  • Composure, organization, and prioritization during fast-moving legislative periods.
  • Strong project management skills and attention to detail with excellent follow-through on deliverables.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and visualization tools to support strategic decision-making.
  • Ability to use productivity tools, including AI, for research and summarization.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Teams, and government relations tools such as Bloomberg Government.
  • Intellectual curiosity about the credit union industry, regulatory environment, and evolving policy landscape.
  • Self-directed work style with ownership mentality and proactive problem-solving approach.
  • Transparent communication style that builds trust with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Authentic, approachable presence with a welcoming personality that facilitates relationship-building across diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated honesty and personal integrity in all professional interactions.
  • Bachelor's degree in political science or a related field preferred; candidates without a degree may be considered with an additional two years of relevant practice demonstrating the required competencies.
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in government relations, legislative affairs, public policy, public affairs, communications, or advocacy (nine years without a bachelor's degree).
  • Proven ability to manage complex, multi-stakeholder advocacy campaigns.
  • Capable of analyzing sensitive information and internal reporting to develop data-driven recommendations that inform project decision-making and refine corporate positioning.
  • Experience building and sustaining effective relationships with elected officials, executive-level decision-makers, and diverse external stakeholders, including business leaders and community partners.
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to comprehend complex materials and draft clear summaries, briefs, talking points, testimony, and advocacy materials for professional and executive audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with excellent follow-through.
  • Experience representing an organization in public-facing campaigns or initiatives with executive engagement.
  • Regular travel within Oregon and Southwest Washington, with occasional travel to Washington, D.C. and conferences.
  • Reliable transportation to off-site meetings, hearings, and events, including regional locations away from OnPoint offices and outside normal business hours.
  • Availability to work extended hours during legislative sessions or special events.
  • Regular in-office presence.
