About The Position

Rogers Group, Inc., headquartered in Nashville, is a privately held aggregates and asphalt highway construction company operating in 13 states with over 3,500 employees. RGI, established in 1908, has the distinction of being recognized as the largest privately held aggregate producer in the United States. Rogers Group is currently seeking an experienced Grading Foreman to support construction operations throughout the Knoxville and surrounding areas. This position provides on-site leadership and supervision of grading, earthwork, roadway construction, and site development crews. The Grading Foreman is responsible for coordinating field operations, directing crew members and equipment, and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project plans, specifications, and company standards. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, a proactive approach to safety, and the ability to maintain productivity while delivering high-quality results. This role is critical to supporting ongoing construction operations and contributing to future project growth within the region.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Grading Foreman or Lead Operator in heavy highway, earthwork, or site development construction.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and supervise field crews and coordinate equipment operations.
  • Working knowledge of grading techniques, excavation methods, and site development processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and technical specifications.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to follow directions and communicate effectively with supervisors, crew members, clients, and subcontractors.
  • Valid driver’s license with the ability to maintain a satisfactory motor vehicle record.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with GPS machine control and grade control systems.
  • Basic surveying or layout experience.
  • Previous experience in heavy highway or large-scale site development projects.
  • Familiarity with DOT construction standards and specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise daily activities of grading and earthwork crews.
  • Oversee grading, excavation, site preparation, drainage installation, and roadway subgrade work.
  • Direct the use and operation of heavy equipment to ensure efficient and safe production.
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, and project requirements to guide field operations.
  • Ensure grading and site development work meets required elevations, tolerances, and project specifications.
  • Coordinate field operations with subcontractors, survey crews, and project management staff.
  • Promote and enforce a strong safety culture in accordance with company and regulatory standards.
  • Conduct daily pre-shift safety meetings and review Job Safety Analyses (JSA) for non-routine work.
  • Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Immediately report and document incidents, injuries, equipment damage, and safety concerns.
  • Maintain compliance with company safety policies and applicable OSHA regulations.
  • Communicate daily with the Superintendent regarding manpower, equipment, materials, and project progress.
  • Coordinate equipment utilization and material deliveries to maintain production schedules.
  • Keep project leadership informed of potential issues impacting project performance, schedule, or costs.
  • Provide clear directions and guidance to crew members to ensure efficient task completion.
  • Maintain accurate daily project documentation including: Daily field reports Production quantities Equipment hours Labor timecards Material usage and deliveries
  • Provide timely and accurate documentation for safety incidents, quality concerns, and operational issues.
  • Assist with project tracking and reporting requirements as needed.
  • Inspect work areas and completed work to ensure compliance with project specifications and company quality standards.
  • Verify grade elevations and tolerances prior to and during construction activities.
  • Work with survey personnel to ensure proper layout and grade control.
