About The Position

PeopleTec is currently seeking a Graduate Research Engineer / Scientist to support our Huntsville, AL location. This position is designed for graduate students or individuals who have been accepted into a graduate program in STEM fields. The role provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in research and development (R&D) while contributing to real-world projects. In addition to technical responsibilities, this position includes opportunities to mentor and provide guidance to undergraduate research engineers/scientists. Work will generally be performed in-person at our corporate office as part of a 40-hour weekly schedule, typically during summer and winter academic breaks. Based on performance and availability, there may be opportunities for part-time remote work during the school year. Limited travel to partner institutions, including universities, national laboratories, or Government facilities, may be required for certain experiments or meetings. Graduate Research Engineers/Scientists will work as part of a collaborative research team, under the guidance of experienced engineers and scientists. You will contribute to projects focused on topics such as engineering physics, electronics, micro-/nano-scale sciences, and emerging areas of interest to the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). This position will provide opportunities to develop advanced scientific skills, take on leadership roles, and gain exposure to complex R&D challenges.

Requirements

  • Enrollment as a graduate student or acceptance into a graduate program in a STEM field such as engineering, physics, computer science, or a related discipline.
  • Strong understanding of scientific principles, laboratory techniques, and engineering concepts.
  • Experience (through coursework, research, or projects) in areas such as experiment design, electronics, or computational modeling.
  • Proficiency with common software tools (e.g., Python, MATLAB, or LaTeX) and Microsoft Office for analysis and reporting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create clear documentation and presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-based environment.
  • Interest in mentoring and supporting the development of undergraduate researchers.
  • Travel: 10 %
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Ability to obtain a Secret security clearance and the ability to maintain this level of clearance during their employment.
  • Active enrollment in a graduate degree program in a STEM field (3.5 GPA or higher)

Responsibilities

  • Lead or assist with the design and execution of experiments, including laboratory and simulation-based activities.
  • Conduct independent literature research to support scientific model-building and hypothesis testing.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and evaluate ideas, contributing to project planning and execution.
  • Configure and operate laboratory test systems, including instrumentation, sensors, and measurement devices.
  • Perform advanced data analysis using tools such as MATLAB, Python, and other common software suites.
  • Document research progress and results in technical reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to undergraduate research engineers/scientists, fostering their professional development.
  • Support the preparation of scientific materials, such as literature reviews, customer deliverables, and publication-quality reports.
