About The Position

The Grammar School Fourth and Fifth Grade Math Teacher holds the primary responsibility of teaching the CGPS math curriculum and ensuring the success of its students. The Grammar School Math Teacher is committed to continuously improving the math curriculum and instructional practices through reflection, collaboration, and data-driven practices.

Requirements

  • Three to five years of upper elementary/middle school math teaching experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in contemporary mathematics pedagogy; experience and knowledge of Singapore Math teaching approach is preferred
  • Adept at using technology to enhance student learning
  • Evidence of successful collaboration focused on student success
  • Effective communicator; ability to communicate articulately (verbal and written) with the community
  • A demonstrated ability to innovate, problem-solve, and differentiate the curriculum to support and enrich the math learning experience for all students
  • Bachelor’s degree in education is required; an advanced degree in mathematics teaching is preferred

  • NYS teaching certification is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Teaches fourth-grade math, fifth-grade math, or a combination
  • Facilitates before and/or after school math programs
  • Creates a positive, supportive, and engaging learning environment
  • Uses the CGPS Framework for Teaching to guide their professional practice
  • Assumes responsibility for assigned duties
  • Collaborates with colleagues in the math department and classroom teachers on the written, taught, and assessed curriculum
  • Collaborate with fourth and fifth grade classroom teachers to differentiate instruction and build teacher capacity in math instruction.
  • Plans for and implements differentiated instruction, including remediation and enrichment to meet the needs of all students
  • Collects, analyzes, and uses multiple forms of data, including MAP, to inform instructional decisions to positively impact student learning
  • Uses department guidelines to assess and evaluate students throughout the year, maintaining records, leading parent conferences, and writing report cards accordingly
  • Works closely with the Grammar School Math Department Head and the Director of Curriculum and Instruction to ensure consistency, continuity, and coherence of the math curriculum
  • Keeps abreast of current best practices and research in mathematics
  • Works with the Middle School math department to ensure that students transition seamlessly from 5th grade to 6th grade
  • Collaborates with the LRC department in support of student learning in mathematics
  • Collaborates positively and respectfully with all members of the Grammar School community, including colleagues, school administrators and parents
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Divisional Director
