About The Position

Get to know Thompson! Thompson was founded in 1886 as an orphanage and has grown into an organization operating across the Carolinas, Florida Tennessee and Kentucky. Thompson’s continuum of care encompasses three domains: prevention, mental health services and foster care. All Thompson programs are trauma-informed and evidence-based/evidence-informed with the intention of building resilience in our clients (ages 0-18) and their families, both virtually and in person. Our values are Excellence, Innovation, Commitment, Caring and Integrity. What will you do as a Grant Accountant? As a Grant Accountant, you will support the financial management of our grant- and contract-funded programs. This role prepares grant invoices and financial reports, tracks grant spending, and helps ensure compliance with funder requirements. The Grant Accountant works closely with program leaders and the finance team to support responsible stewardship of public and private funds.

Requirements

  • Must have a valid North Carolina Driver License.
  • Associate’s degree in accounting, finance or a related field required and at least 2-3 years of professional experience required.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred. Additional relevant accounting or grant management experience may substitute for education
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite application software, especially excel
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines
  • Commitment to ethical practice and collaborative teamwork
  • Charlotte location is highly preferred. Able to come to the office in Matthews, NC at least 1 time per month

Responsibilities

  • Prepare grant invoices, cost reimbursement requests, and required financial reports
  • Track grant expenditures and compare spending to approved budgets
  • Reconcile grant revenue and receivables
  • Maintain grant project codes and internal tracking tools
  • Track grant invoicing and reporting deadlines
  • Prepare budget-to-actual reports for program leaders and leadership
  • Maintain documentation supporting grant expenditures and compliance requirements
  • Assist with preparation of schedules and documentation for financial and single audits
  • Provide financial information to support proposal development when needed
