About The Position

Join the Nebraska Department of Education as a Grant Audit Specialist and help safeguard the funding that supports schools across Nebraska. In this role, you will conduct onsite and desk audits to ensure federal and state grant funds are used appropriately and in compliance with regulatory requirements. You will also provide technical assistance to internal and external stakeholders, offering guidance on federal regulations and financial best practices. We are seeking candidates with exceptional attention to detail, outstanding customer service and communication skills, and substantial experience in financial accounting or auditing. Pay Grade 7: $30.597/hour This rate is based upon available budget funds; any offer will be made at this rate. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Accounting, Finance, etc.) and two years of experience related to the essential functions of the position.
  • Any equivalent education and\or work experience may be substituted in order to meet the minimum qualifications of the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Accounting or related field (including at least 24 semester hours of accounting or auditing) and at least four years of experience with budget, grant review, or compliance in government or non-profit accounting.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with financial review, interpretation, and implementation of federal and state laws and regulations related to fiscal compliance and subrecipient award terms and conditions.
  • Provides technical assistance related to financial compliance, regulations, policies and procedures, allowable expenditures, and program standards.
  • Develops and modifies policies, procedures, and systems in accordance with government regulations and organizational needs and objectives.
  • Assists school districts with preparation for external monitoring visits, on-site and desk reviews, audits, and cross-site evaluations.
  • Establishes and maintains supporting documentation files (e.g., financial, procurement, internal control, general ledger) for each subrecipient financial examination.
  • Prepares information and reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Monitors subrecipient compliance with federal regulations and the requirements of their subrecipient agreements.
  • Ensures monitoring procedures are compliant and recommends necessary audit findings to resolve non-compliance issues or internal control concerns.
  • Reviews, evaluates, and makes recommendations for monitoring and correcting internal, operational, and fiscal control systems in addition to section performance.
  • Provides training and technical assistance related to principles, policies, and interpreting and executing regulations and subrecipient award terms and conditions.
  • Maintains regular & reliable attendance, possesses a valid driver’s license and travels independently, and works in a variety of settings.
