JOB SUMMARY: The role of Graphic Technician is vital to the success of folding carton print manufacturing at GPI. The Graphic Technician is the graphics manufacturing expert who handles graphic receivables including customer proofs, files and information. The responsibilities of the role entail working with major internationally known brands to ensure that their graphics adhere to print standards. The Graphic Technician uses production software to inspect and construct plating files used for offset press production. To be successful in this role, the Graphic Technician must be able to follow and deliver on daily plant production schedules. This includes using database systems and graphic software tools to coordinate the staging, inspection and shipping of graphic related print materials to the Vancouver and Gresham plants. The Graphic Technician has the responsibility of processing platesetter-ready files per order specification. The work provided must be accurate, timely and done with pride. The role also requires a collaborative approach and professional interactions with other GPI business units, customer suppliers, manufacturing plants and Graphic Services department peers. The ability to work independently and to be accountable are also essential for this role. Knowledge base: The ideal candidate will possess a graphic production knowledgebase with strong understanding of digital artwork, proofing concepts, CMYK, spot color inks, CAD structural files, along with cause-and-effect scenarios in a print production environment. A strong understanding of computer concepts, graphic arts, digital imaging and the ability to manipulate graphic files are paramount for success in this position. The ideal candidate would have a working understanding of industry specifications and best practices for graphic reproduction, such as: G7, FTA, IDEAlliance, CxF & PDF.
