About The Position

Provide leadership, coordination, and daily operations of the Grounds and Custodial Services to ensure district facilities, both indoor and outdoor, are properly maintained, safe, and functional year-round. Foster teamwork, collaboration, and effective management practices to meet district and campus needs. Adhere to federal and state laws, as well as district policies, procedures, and regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and three (3) years supervisory experience in grounds/maintenance/custodial services department similar in size and scope to YISD OR High School Diploma/General Education Diploma (GED) and seven (7) years verifiable experience in grounds/maintenance/custodial services, to include three (3) years supervisory experience in grounds/maintenance/custodial services department similar in size and scope to YISD.
  • Must possess effective oral and written communication skills, public speaking skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with district employees, co-workers and community.
  • Ability to read and interpret blue prints and plans.
  • Experience and working knowledge of current computer software and hardware related to position.
  • Maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Able to work evenings, nights and weekends as assigned.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push and/or pull up to fifty (50) pounds occasionally; more than 50 pounds infrequently and with assistance; requires extended periods of standing, bending, reaching, kneeling, stooping, walking and lifting.
  • Must possess a valid Texas or New Mexico driver's license; be insurable by the district's auto liability insurance carrier; subject to the YISD drug and alcohol testing policy and regulation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and manage an effective custodial program, including creating and maintaining custodial Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and operational guidelines.
  • Select, train, supervise, and evaluate assigned staff; make recommendations relative to professional development, assignment, retention, and discipline.
  • Conduct regular/safety inspections of campuses, outdoor facilities, and work sites to evaluate custodial and grounds performance, generating reports and recommendations for improvement.
  • Establish and facilitate training programs for custodial and grounds staff on work procedures, safety practices, and minor maintenance tasks.
  • Provide 24-hour on-call emergency support for cleanup and repairs due to fires, floods, vandalism, and other urgent incidents.
  • Develop, manage, and monitor custodial and grounds budgets, maintain appropriate inventory levels, and evaluate and recommend supplies, equipment, and purchases.
  • Implement and oversee preventive maintenance programs for custodial operations, grounds services, athletic fields, and outdoor facilities to ensure safety, functionality, and appearance.
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate grounds maintenance activities, including landscaping, pesticide application, and the upkeep of athletic fields, ensuring proper coordination with the Athletic Department.
  • Develop, recommend, and enforce policies, procedures, and best practices related to custodial and grounds operations, ensuring compliance with district, state, and federal regulations.
  • Manage work orders, schedules, and maintenance records through the district's work order software system, ensuring accurate documentation of completed work.
  • Coordinate with district departments, campus administrators, head custodians, athletic staff, and community stakeholders to ensure safe, clean, and well-maintained facilities/grounds and provide support/address performance concerns.
  • Assist campus administrators with the evaluation and auditing of custodial and grounds staff, including oversight of afternoon and evening shifts, to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of both short-term and long-term planning goals for custodial services, grounds operations, and facility improvements.
  • Inspect and respond to outdoor facility and grounds issues, including hazards, complaints, and accidents, implementing corrective actions as necessary.
  • Evaluate equipment, site, material, and labor requirements; prepare cost estimates for grounds and facility projects; work with vendors and the purchasing department to procure necessary supplies efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Oversee the maintenance, inventory, and proper use of department vehicles, tools, and equipment.
  • Attendance at the work site is required to meet essential functions of the job.
  • Participate in professional development activities as required by the district.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties; support district/department goals.
  • Maintain a professional code of ethics and perform other duties as assigned.
