About The Position

The Laborer Grounds Heavy performs various labor tasks to maintain Fort Carson property.

Requirements

  • Prefer minimum of one (1) year direct related experience and/or formal vocational/technical training and be physically able to handle the job responsibilities. Each complete year of accredited college education in a related field may be substituted for the equivalent number of years of required experience.
  • Must be able to successfully complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (Tier 1) background check.
  • Must be able to maintain ability to access government worksite.
  • Must be able to work alternate and extended shift schedules when necessary to meet the customer's mission requirements, including weekends and holidays.
  • Must be able to perform on-call duties when necessary and report to work within the required timeframe from notification.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license and a safe driving record, in accordance with company policy, to operate vehicles or equipment as required for the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in operating small trucks and grounds equipment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Cut grass or weeds with a mower, riding or hand
  • Trim hedges and edges around walks, flowerbeds, and wells, using hedge trimmers, weed eaters, clippers and edging tools.
  • Prune shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth, using shears and other hand tools.
  • Sprays lawn, shrubs, and trees with fertilizer or insecticide.
  • Hand weed-pulling, raking, mulching landscapes, remove dead, damaged or unwanted trees.
  • Plant grass, flowers, trees and shrubs.
  • Water lawn and shrubs during dry periods, using hose or activating sprinkler system.
  • Picks up and carts away leaves, paper or other litter.
  • Dig with hand tools or small equipment.
  • Repair and paint fences, gates, benches, tables, guardrails, and outbuildings.
  • Drive ATV’s, Kubota’s and other small equipment or Tractors clearing snow from walkways, parking lots, and traffic areas using shovel and snow blower.
  • Spreads salt on walkways and other areas.
  • Work with turf, seed, fertilizers.
  • Shovel gravel, rock and dirt; moving rock and landscaping materials.
  • May work with equipment operators to coordinate hand-digging for utility lines etc.
  • May be counted on to work asphalt, concrete, paint striping, and occasionally operate small excavation equipment and or a street sweeper, and as a flagger when required to meet mission requirements.
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
