About The Position

Under the direction of the Director of Facilities & Safety, the Grounds/Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for assisting the Director of Facilities & Safety with all ground’s, building maintenance and Health and Safety needs. The Grounds/Maintenance Supervisor provides for healthy safe and efficient grounds and maintenance by assisting the Director of Facilities & Safety in developing grounds and maintenance standards.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and repair of grounds equipment, including irrigation systems, power mowers, power sweepers, and snow removal equipment.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of grounds and athletic field maintenance.
  • Knowledge of supervisory and management fundamentals, including staff oversight, training, and performance evaluation.
  • Knowledge of District administrative policies and procedures, including purchasing, human resources, accounting practices, and records and data retention requirements.
  • Knowledge of federal and state health and safety codes, regulations, and compliance requirements related to facilities and grounds operations.
  • Knowledge of office administration and recordkeeping principles and practices relevant to the position.
  • Ability to operate and maintain Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems, including checking mechanical system operations, replacing filters and belts, and lubricating components in accordance with manufacturer specifications and operating procedures.
  • Ability to operate and monitor Building Automation Systems (BAS).
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply information from technical documents and repair manuals.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, department heads, vendors, and District administrators.
  • Ability to delegate, supervise, train, evaluate, and plan work assignments and priorities for department staff.
  • Ability to coordinate and monitor capital improvement and facility maintenance projects.
  • Ability to apply procurement practices, including bid processes, preparation of project specifications, pricing, and ordering of materials and equipment.
  • Ability to assist in planning, recommending, and monitoring approved departmental budgets.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and oversee preventive maintenance plans, schedules, and procedures.
  • Ability to monitor facility grounds and related repair work of a mechanical or physical nature, including irrigation systems, snow removal equipment, and athletic field maintenance.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and organize tasks and operational functions effectively.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining accountability for assigned responsibilities.
  • Ability to train, mentor, and develop staff to improve performance and operational efficiency.
  • Ability to plan for and address facility and District operational needs while ensuring compliance with applicable safety and health requirements, laws, rules, and guidelines .
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of three to five (3–5) years of experience in grounds maintenance, facilities maintenance, or building operations required.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe, the following licenses and certifications as required by the District or state regulations: Chief C Boiler License Certified Pool Operator (CPO) License
  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree, technical certification, or specialized training in facilities maintenance, grounds management, building systems, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous supervisory or lead experience in maintenance, facilities, or grounds operations preferred.
  • Experience operating and maintaining grounds equipment, irrigation systems, and snow removal equipment preferred.
  • Experience with HVAC systems, basic plumbing, electrical maintenance, and building automation systems (BAS) desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises grounds and maintenance personnel and provides recommendations to District administrators regarding recruitment, evaluation, discipline, and termination matters.
  • Leads and coordinates the interview and selection process for grounds and maintenance staff.
  • Implements staffing assignments and schedules; conducts employee performance evaluations and oversees staff training and development.
  • Assists the Director of Facilities & Safety in developing and implementing short- and long-term plans for grounds and facility operations, including health and safety programs, equipment maintenance, repair or replacement, and facility improvements or renovations.
  • Implements and maintains the district’s facilities management system and oversees planning for ongoing facility and grounds needs.
  • Provides leadership, direction, and daily supervision to grounds and maintenance staff to ensure work is completed efficiently and in accordance with district standards.
  • Oversees and participates in the maintenance and care of district grounds, including landscaping, turf management, irrigation systems, snow and ice removal, and general site upkeep.
  • Coordinates preventative maintenance activities to ensure grounds equipment and facility systems remain in safe and operational condition.
  • Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs related to HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems in district buildings as needed.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable safety regulations, district policies, and environmental standards.
  • Maintains accurate records related to maintenance activities, equipment usage, and work orders.
  • Performs other duties of a comparable level and type as assigned.
