About The Position

Department of Public Safety Standards and Training Building & Grounds Specialist (Grounds Maintenance Worker 1) This recruitment is for one (1), regular, full-time position located in Salem, OR (4190 Aumsville Hwy SE) and is represented by Oregon Public Safety Association. This recruitment will be used to establish a list of qualified applicants and may be used to fill future vacancies. What you will be doing: This position is responsible for addressing the care of the grounds. Common duties include, Using manual or power equipment to mow, edge, aerate, thatch lawns or landscape beds. Plant, cut, trim, prune, transplant, fertilize and water lawns, shrubs, bedding plants, ground cover, and trees using hand or power equipment. Remove organic debris from campus facilities: including roofs, drainage areas, utility tunnels, streets and sidewalks, lawns, parking lots, building entrances, lobbies, hallways and stairwells, and adjacent roadways and sidewalks. Empty trash cans as needed; transport litter, plant debris, and trash to appropriate facilities. Maintain building entry spaces via sweeping and mopping. Troubleshoot and complete minor repairs on tools and equipment. Refer major repairs to appropriate staff. Initiate purchase requests for parts, supplies and equipment when necessary. Requirements

  • Two (2) years of landscape experience.
  • An associates degree in landscape technology, horticulture, turf management or closely related field AND six (6) months of landscape experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of horticulture and grounds keeping practices and standards.
  • Experience operating and maintaining grounds maintenance equipment including but not limited to riding lawn mower, tractor, weed eaters, blowers, chain saws, and hedge trimmers.
  • Knowledge and experience working within OSHA rules and regulations.
  • Experience and willingness to work within a team setting for project completion.
  • Experience maintaining building entry spaces.
