About The Position

In the course of a year, we provide more than 3,000 children, ages 6 weeks through Pre-K with high-quality literacy and STEAM-infused learning; give 58,000 youth and teens access to sports, aquatics, day and resident camps, teen leadership development programs, and employment opportunities; provide over 200,000 members with programs, services, and facilities to enjoy connection and maintain wellness regardless of age; and engage over 25,000 volunteers and donors from across Atlanta to share in the gift of supporting their communities. NATURE AND SCOPE: Under the direction of VP of Community Health & Wellness, the Association Group Exercise Trainer will provide support and guidance to group exercise instructors in the select training format. Curriculum has been pre-designed and must be adhered to as designed. Participants will be assessed in a written and hands-on fashion.

Requirements

  • Must hold a current Group Exercise Instructor certification either through the YMCA or a nationally recognized certifying body. Accepted organizations include – ACE, AFAA, ACSM, IFTA, IFA, ISSA, NETA.
  • Must be active with CPR/AED certification.
  • Must be willing to work at any Metro Atlanta YMCA locations on training days
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check including Criminal Record check, Drug Screening, motor vehicle record (MVR) and reference check according to company policy.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the US without current or future sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Provide pre-designed curriculum to class participants in effective, meaningful and compelling ways.
  • Encourage group participation and interaction through the use of open-ended questions and facilitate commitment and retention of participants.
  • Create a motivating environment that is friendly and non-competitive.
  • Foster relationships with and between participants.
  • Make learning a shared responsibility for the group.
  • Prepare before each class (printing of materials, classroom set-up, etc.).
  • Provide accessibility to participants both before and after sessions to answer questions and follow-up on any questions you cannot answer during training time.
  • Follow-up with participants outside of the training if they do not pass the practical or the written skills portions of the training.
  • Be willing to travel 10-60 miles to branches within the Metropolitan Atlanta area.
  • Arrive for class on time and dressed appropriately and with all needed materials.
