About The Position

The purpose of the Hand Scrapper position is to convert die cut sheets into individual item blanks by removing all excess paperboard from around and between die cut product pieces. This process is performed manually by tearing off scrap, using a wooden mallet to knock off scrap, or operating a jackhammer when necessary. The Hand Scrapper may also assist in a variety of tasks within the Die Cutting Department as directed. The Die Cutting Department consists of two die cutting presses, a scrapping area, and a die maintenance area. The Die Cutter Operator moves pallets of product into the scrapping staging area for processing. The Hand Scrapper removes excess paperboard according to scheduled workflow, ensuring work instructions are followed and load tags are properly replaced on stripped/scrapped pallets. The Hand Scrapper communicates job status, production needs, and any quality concerns to the Die Cutting Operator and management as necessary.

Requirements

  • Fluency in the English language.
  • Basic reading and writing skills.
  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) to determine and convert load counts.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow verbal instructions.
  • Ability to perform all essential duties listed above.
  • Ability to move among equipment in the Die Cutting and Scrapping Departments.
  • Ability to lift loads of products (up to 35 lbs.).
  • Ability to lift, swing, and use wooden mallets.
  • Ability to lift and operate a jackhammer.
  • Ability to use a pallet jack to move pallets of scrapped product.
  • Frequent standing, bending, and repetitive motion throughout shift.

Responsibilities

  • Strip/scrap waste from die cut sheets efficiently while preserving product quality.
  • Maintain load integrity by ensuring correct load tags are replaced on appropriate pallets after stripping.
  • Monitor product for defects and immediately alert management of any previously unidentified quality issues.
  • Move scrapped pallets to the Gluing/Folding area as needed.
  • Pack finished product in corrugated cases when required.
  • Assist with other tasks in the Die Cutting Department under the direction of the Die Cutting Lead.
  • Review job tickets, load tags, and related job/order documentation as required.
  • Accurately report waste and final counts for all jobs processed.
  • Adhere to all policies outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Participate in departmental housekeeping regulations and requirements.
  • Comply with quality control procedures through in-process inspection, detection, load marking, correction, and prevention activities in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Follow all safety rules and guidelines throughout the facility and report unsafe conditions to management immediately.
