The Hazardous Production Materials (HPM) Commissioning Technician is responsible for supporting the safe and effective commissioning of HPM systems within advanced manufacturing and industrial facilities. This role focuses on verifying, testing, calibrating, and validating HPM systems and associated field instrumentation to ensure compliance with design specifications, safety standards, and operational requirements. The technician will work closely with engineering, construction, safety, and operations teams to ensure systems are commissioned safely, accurately, and efficiently.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience commissioning, maintaining, or supporting Hazardous Production Materials (HPM) systems in semiconductor, industrial manufacturing, chemical, or high-tech facilities.
  • Strong understanding of hazardous materials safety practices, lockout/tagout (LOTO), permits, and safe work procedures.
  • Experience performing system walkdowns, inspections, and field verification activities.
  • Familiarity with field instrumentation such as gas detectors, sensors, transmitters, controllers, and monitoring systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, isometrics, single-line diagrams, specifications, and commissioning documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to document findings clearly and accurately.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Comfortable working in active construction and operational environments while maintaining a strong safety-first mindset.
  • Proficiency with basic computer tools (Microsoft Office, commissioning software, CMMS, or similar systems preferred).
  • Technical degree, trade school certification, or military technical background preferred.
  • Formal education is preferred but not required; relevant hands-on experience will be strongly considered in place of a degree.

Nice To Haves

  • Safety certifications (HPM, HAZWOPER, confined space, LOTO, gas safety, etc.) are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Execute a systematic commissioning process for Hazardous Production Materials (HPM) systems, including verification, testing, calibration, and validation of plant systems and field instruments such as sensors, transmitters, controllers, and detectors.
  • Perform detailed system walkdowns for plant projects containing HPM components to identify deficiencies, installation variances, or incomplete work, and document findings clearly.
  • Track, coordinate, and support corrective actions to resolve identified commissioning and construction issues.
  • Conduct inspections, functional testing, and readiness checks to confirm systems are safe, complete, and ready for operation.
  • Collaborate with engineering, construction, safety, and operations teams to validate system performance and commissioning readiness.
  • Ensure all commissioning activities comply with site safety requirements, regulatory standards, and hazardous material handling protocols.
  • Identify, monitor, and help mitigate risks associated with hazardous materials, processes, and energized systems during commissioning activities.
  • Prepare, review, and maintain accurate commissioning documentation, including reports, checklists, test records, and turnover packages.
  • Update commissioning documentation to reflect system changes, modifications, or enhancements made during the commissioning process.
  • Support startup, turnover, and handoff activities to operations teams as required.
  • Perform any other duties or responsibilities as assigned in support of commissioning and project objectives.
