Meets the hospital's professional, clinical, technical, communication and documentation requirements and standards and to make decisions based on established guidelines. Required to demonstrate competent professionalism and courtesy during frequent interactions with management/administration, doctors, allied healthcare professionals, patients, general public and local schools, hospitals and sports teams. Provides day-to-day supervision, operational management, hiring, and all aspects of the athletic training program including assistant athletic trainers, intern athletic trainers or graduate assistant athletic trainers assigned to the College. Organizes and maintains all medical records in accordance with Federal, State and NCAA/NAIA or equivalent regulations. The position will be responsible for specific sport responsibilities, including attendance at team practices and home and away competition and primary injury management of team members. Acts as "Athletics Health Care Administrator" per NCAA guidelines. Per NCAA AHCA Handbook, "The position is mandated by NCAA Independent Medical Care legislation requiring member schools to designate an athletics health care administrator as a part of a broader obligation to establish a structure that supports the delivery of independent medical care for college athletes." Represents the Sports Medicine Department in college administration meetings. Communicates with physicians and coaching staff regarding the injury status of athletes. Develops and maintains all department guidelines, policy and procedure in accordance with national/international best practices and consensus statements. Monitors and maintains good communication with insurance providers and health care advocates. Responsible for working with the head team physician in the development of the overall sports medicine program, including injury prevention programs, injury evaluations, injury management, treatment and rehabilitation, educational programs, and counseling of student-athletes. Performs other duties as assigned. Supervisory/Management Responsibilities This is a supervisor job which may have direct supervision of team members which may include hire/termination authority, disciplinary authority, and performance management responsibilities. May have budget input or responsibilities. Job is not considered a member of management staff.

Requirements

  • Education - Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training/Physical Education or related field with Athletic Training emphasis
  • Experience - Five (5) years of experience in Athletic Training. Two (2) years of experience in a supervisory role.
  • BLS
  • LLR Licensure as an Athletic Trainer in the state the team member is working.
  • BOC (Board of Certification) for Athletic Training. State certified or eligible for certification.
  • Working knowledge of general therapy/athletic training equipment including, but not limited to, rehabilitation equipment, taping supplies, bracing, cardiovascular machines, weights, and use of prescribed drugs per physician orders
  • Interpersonal and communications skills to develop effective working relationships with athletes and to serve as a liaison for Prisma Health among athletes, coaching staff, parents, physicians and other healthcare professionals.
