The Head Coach position is responsible for providing leadership and guidance to student athletes, assistant coaches and volunteers within the program. The Head Coach will instruct athletes in fundamental skills, mental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. At the same time, the student shall receive instruction that will lead to the formulation of moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, and self-confidence. The Head Coach reports to and works closely with the Athletics Director to determine goals and direction of the program. The Head Coach is responsible for the health, safety and welfare of every student athlete participating in their program for the Ogden School District. The success of athletic/activity programs has a strong influence on the community’s image of the entire school system. Public exposure is a considerable responsibility and community/parent pressure for winning is taxing, but must not override the objectives of good sportsmanship, good mental health, or our purpose in educational based activities. All head coaches must complete coaching certification requirements as set by the UHSAA and the Ogden School District. Head Coaches must show competency in the following: Proven experience in teaching and modeling character and responsible behavior. Positive, high energy, and committed to the program. Partners well with parents, staff, community leaders, etc. View success not just as winning, but as helping team members to reach goals. Must have substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and at the same time must continue to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field. Always strives to improve knowledge base and skills by attending clinics.
