About The Position

Wingate University is seeking a dynamic and student-athlete–centered Head Women’s Volleyball Coach to lead and grow its NCAA Division II women’s volleyball program. The Head Coach is responsible for providing vision, leadership, and day-to-day management of all aspects of the program, including competitive success, recruiting, player development, academic achievement, compliance, and community engagement. The position reports to the Athletic Director and is expected to align fully with the mission, values, and standards of Wingate University.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated successful coaching experience in volleyball (collegiate, high-level club, or equivalent).
  • Strong recruiting, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and a commitment to compliance.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and mentoring abilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree.
  • Previous head coaching experience at the collegiate level.
  • NCAA Division II coaching or recruiting experience.
  • Experience managing budgets and supervising staff.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and conduct effective practices and competitions that promote skill development, teamwork, and competitive success.
  • Develop and implement a clear vision and philosophy for the women’s volleyball program.
  • Manage game preparation, strategy, and in-game coaching.
  • Recruit, evaluate, and retain qualified student-athletes who align with Wingate University’s academic and athletic standards.
  • Manage roster size and scholarships in accordance with NCAA, conference, and university regulations.
  • Build positive relationships with high school and club coaches.
  • Foster an environment that emphasizes academic achievement, personal growth, leadership, and sportsmanship.
  • Monitor academic progress and support student-athlete retention and graduation.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, discipline, and respect.
  • Oversee all administrative aspects of the program, including scheduling, budgeting, travel planning, and equipment management.
  • Hire, supervise, and evaluate assistant coaches and support staff as applicable.
  • Ensure effective communication with athletic training, strength and conditioning, sports communications, and compliance staff.
  • Ensure full compliance with NCAA, conference, and Wingate University rules and regulations.
  • Promote a culture of integrity and ethical conduct within the program.
  • Represent the women’s volleyball program positively within the university, conference, and broader community.
  • Support departmental fundraising, alumni relations, and community service initiatives.
  • Engage in campus events and collaborate with institutional partners.
