About The Position

The Head Lifeguard position, under the direct supervision of the Area Supervisor, is responsible for the supervision of aquatic-related personnel and ensuring the control and safety of participants during recreational and instructional swimming. This is a summer seasonal position with a start date of June 15th going through August 23rd. Shifts will be between the hours of 11:30am to 7:30pm Sunday-Saturday. Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old or 1 year experience
  • Must hold a current lifeguarding certification
  • Upon hire, Professional Rescue CPR AED, and First Aid certification required
  • High School graduate or equivalent required
  • 2 years of lifeguarding experience required
  • Must possess effective communication and human relations skills
  • Must show maturity and ability to relate to children and adults from all social/economic segments of the community

Responsibilities

  • Ensures that the highest aquatic standards are constantly maintained.
  • Provides direct supervision to facility staff and maintains high safety standards during recreational and instructional swimming.
  • Proficient in all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures
  • Communicate with a supervisor about any concerns regarding safety, staff, or the public.
  • Responsible for determining if weather becomes a safety concern and following proper closing policies and procedures (working/communicating with Area Supervisor)
  • Keeps beach/pool areas organized, maintains a clean facility, and cares for all equipment
  • Ability to perform chemical testing if required, and takes appropriate action.
  • Follows opening and closing procedures ensuring all guards are following these protocols.
  • Work at any of the 5 assigned locations and be part of the lifeguard rotation as needed
  • Engages in positive public relations with patrons and models for other staff
  • Conducts regular safety inspections of aquatic facility
  • Maintains certifications listed under Certificates, Licenses
  • Receives and carries out instructions
  • Maintain a professional appearance at all times; wear clothing that meets the YMCA dress code.
