About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Recreation Manager, the Lifeguard – Head is responsible for overseeing all indoor and outdoor pool operations and ensures a safe and positive pool environment. The Lifeguard - Head also provides work direction to staff while on duty, provides feedback, and responds to incidents. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and abilities required. Requirements

  • Knowledge of current first aid and CPR procedures.
  • Knowledge of current rules and regulations pertaining to pools.
  • Ability to enforce these rules and regulations.
  • Ability to pass lifeguard water test.
  • Ability to supervise all users of the pools.
  • Ability to communicate with all different types of people.
  • Ability to recognize swimmers in need of assistance.
  • Ability to recognize, respond, and remedy unsafe situations.
  • Ability to serve as a positive role model and provide constructive feedback.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Minimum 6 months of experience in lifeguarding.
  • Successful completion of the ARC Lifeguard Training Course.
  • Current BLS and First Aid certifications.
  • Must satisfactorily pass a criminal background examination.
  • Must comply with organizational and departmental policies.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with maintaining a safe aquatic area which may include providing work direction to staff, providing real time feedback, and noting suggestions and comments for review.
  • Coordinates lifeguard placement and rotations during shift to ensure efficient guarding and safety.
  • Serves as the first point of contact in regards to documenting incidents that may occur when another lifeguard needs assistance.
  • Provides quality customer service to members and participants.
  • Assists with implementing in-service training sessions.
  • Attends monthly in-service trainings.
  • Effectively and respectfully communicates with other employees, supervisors, and customers.
  • Participates in training and education opportunities to maintain and improve proficiency.
  • Performs the physical and mental demands of the position.
  • Performs other related functions as assigned or apparent to achieve the goals and objectives of the Recreation department.
