Job Overview: We are seeking an experienced and strategic leader to head our Cellular Portfolio Management function. This role is responsible for guiding a critical portion of the company’s patent portfolio and ensuring alignment with long-term business and licensing objectives. You will lead a team of portfolio managers and work cross-functionally with engineering, licensing, and legal teams to drive high-value outcomes.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in patent prosecution and portfolio management (law firm and in-house combination preferred)
  • Strong leadership experience with a track record of developing and managing high-performing teams
  • Deep expertise in cellular technologies (e.g., LTE, 5G, 6G); familiarity with standards bodies (e.g., 3GPP) and patent pools (e.g., Avanci) is a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute portfolio strategies aligned with business and licensing goals
  • Experience reviewing and refining claim charts strongly preferred
  • Technical degree (MS or higher) in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Telecommunications, or a related field
  • USPTO registration or European Patent Attorney Qualification required; JD and active bar membership required for US attorney candidates
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively across technical, legal, and executive audiences globally
  • Experience with IP management systems and patent databases
  • Willingness to travel, including internationally

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Portfolio Managers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture
  • Work closely with the Head of Portfolio Management to manage a key segment of the company’s patent portfolio, ensuring strategic alignment and long-term value creation
  • Oversee invention review and filing decisions; guide internal and external counsel to execute prosecution strategies effectively and within budget
  • Drive portfolio development strategies, including continuation and divisional filings, to strengthen asset value and coverage
  • Collaborate with engineers, legal counsel, Licensing Support, and Post-Grant teams to develop and refine claim charts and support prosecution strategy
  • Build deep expertise in the assigned portfolio, including assets, prosecution history, and strategic positioning
  • Ensure portfolio activities align with licensing programs, litigation strategies, and broader corporate initiatives
  • Provide regular portfolio insights and updates to senior leadership, including executive management
  • Partner with engineering teams to provide feedback and guidance on patent-related matters
  • Support litigation efforts, including due diligence and coordination on patent defense against validity challenges
  • Contribute to broader IP initiatives such as SDO engagement, policy compliance, joint ventures, acquisitions, and divestitures
