About The Position

RL Controls is seeking a Head of Engineering to lead a multidisciplinary engineering team responsible for system design, integration, and delivery of intelligent transit systems supporting onboard vehicles and related infrastructure. This role will lead and mentor a team of electrical, network, mechanical, and radio frequency (RF) engineers responsible for designing and delivering integrated commercial-off-the-shelf technology solutions that enhance safety, passenger experience, connectivity, and operational efficiency for public transportation systems. The Head of Engineering works closely with project and quality managers ensuring compliance with ISO-9001 design processes, contract specifications, and customer requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related technical field
  • Experience in transit, transportation, or critical infrastructure.
  • Proven experience designing multi-system integrations.
  • Strong understanding of transit/enterprise IP networking and communication systems, vehicle or transportation electric systems.
  • Experience leading cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Experience working within ISO-9001 or similar quality management environments
  • Bill of Material management and configuration control.
  • Experience supporting engineering teams in a PMO-driven organization.

Responsibilities

  • Engineering Leadership Lead and develop a multidisciplinary team of engineers.
  • Establish engineering priorities, allocate resources, and support professional development.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Systems Design Oversee system design and integration of: Video Systems (CCTV) Passenger information and connectivity platforms Onboard/Infrastructure networking, security, and communications systems RF communications (Wi-Fi, Cellular, Land Mobile Radio) Vehicle monitoring & telematics Ensure and validate solutions meet performance, reliability, and maintainability requirements per contract/project specifications
  • Project Execution Work with project managers to align engineering deliverables with project scope, schedule, and cost objectives.
  • Review and participate in the kick-offs, design, testing, and validation activities against specified criteria to ensure functionality, performance, and customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with project managers to provide resources.
  • Process & Control Ensure engineering processes are updated and aligned with ISO-9001 design control requirements, including: Design planning Requirements Design reviews Verification and validation Document control Participate in audits as necessary Maintain traceability between requirements, system designs, and validation activities.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with production, quality, and field service teams to support system deployment and lifecycle support.
  • Interface with customers and partners during project execution and system deployment.
