About The Position

The Head of HR will serve as both a strategic partner and hands-on leader, responsible for building the people infrastructure to support SmartMoving’s growth. This role will lead all aspects of human resources, including talent acquisition, organizational development, performance management, total rewards, compliance, and culture. The ideal candidate will combine strategic foresight with operational execution, helping SmartMoving scale sustainably while maintaining a collaborative, values-driven culture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Management, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree (preferred) in Human Resource Management, Organizational Psychology, or Business Administration (MBA).
  • Professional certifications such as: o SHRM-SCP or SHRM-CP (Society for Human Resource Management) o SPHR or PHR (HRCI)
  • ~ 10 years of progressive HR experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership or senior management role.
  • Proven experience in: o Strategic workforce planning o Employee relations and compliance o Performance management and organizational development o Talent acquisition and retention strategies o Compensation and benefits management o Change management and culture transformation
  • Experience working closely with executive leadership and Boards of Directors at private equity or venture capital-backed companies to influence company-wide decisions.
  • Strong strategic thinking and business acumen
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Expertise in employment law and HR compliance
  • Proven ability to build and lead high-performing HR teams
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, including a willingness to push automation and an AI first mindset to our team members.
  • Competence in HR technology systems (HRIS, ATS, performance tools, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a scalable HR strategy aligned with SmartMoving’s business objectives and growth trajectory.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO and executive team on organizational design, workforce planning, and culture.
  • Critically, help us enhance and lead with an AI first culture, ensuring that the team is taking advantage of the opportunities afforded by AI.
  • Implement people analytics and metrics to guide leadership decision-making and measure organizational health.
  • Present to and partner with the Company’s Board of Directors and Mainsail’s HR Center of Excellence to refine our HR strategy.
  • Establish efficient HR processes and technologies that scale with company growth, leaning into automation through AI for important but routine tasks.
  • Leverage HRIS tools (e.g., Gusto, Rippling, or similar) for data accuracy, reporting, and automation.
  • Develop SOPs and documentation for consistency across operations.
  • Oversee employee relations, investigations, and risk management with empathy and discretion.
  • Lead performance management processes that align goals, accountability, and recognition with business outcomes.
  • Design and oversee company-wide learning and development programs that foster continuous growth and skill enhancement, especially around AI.
  • Promote a culture of transparency, inclusion, and continuous feedback.
  • Champion company values and act as a cultural steward across all levels.
  • Oversee recruiting strategies to attract diverse, high-performing talent across technical, operational, and leadership roles.
  • Build scalable onboarding and training programs to accelerate productivity and strengthen engagement.
  • Partner with functional leaders to define career paths and development programs that support succession planning and retention.
  • Drive employer branding efforts to position SmartMoving as a destination workplace in SaaS.
  • Design competitive compensation structures and benefits programs that attract and retain top talent globally.
  • Ensure HR policies comply with U.S. federal, state, and international employment laws and regulations.
  • Partner with Finance on headcount planning, budgeting, and compensation analysis.
  • Manage third-party HR systems, vendors, and benefit providers for optimal efficiency and compliance.
